Now I need to get my head round the stuff to go with it.

What would you recommend for:

sleeping bags (2 adults, 3dc, 6yo, 4.5 & 1.5yo)

bed thingies

camping stove

picnicy set or separates from poundshop.

torch/lantern thingy

table

pan set

is there anything else I'm likely to need for a non-roughing it holiday?

Oh, and do people actually take a piece of old carpet with them or is it a special piece of camping kit?

Nappy bucket with a lid (for weeing in at dead of night). I always say that

My tent (Outwell Montana 6) has a carpet (well, a kind of backed rug that fits the living space). It's lovely!

And my "camping kitchen" (my new bit of kit for this year) arrived today...just put it up to have a look at it and I can't wait to go camping now!

Ahhh!

We have a picnic rug in the boot of the car for the beach, plastic backed I think with the fleecey stuff on the other side, is that the stuff?

What is a camping kitchen?

Nappy bucket - tick, thanks

A camping kitchen is a table with (well, some are without) a wind-shield that you put your camping stove on (we have one of those double burner ones with a grill). The one I've bought has a side table and a cupboard - it's terrifically poncey. I'd show it to you but it cost half what your tent did and I'm embarrassed at my spendthriftiness

Where did you buy this from?

Millets for £149

I googled and found a code for 20% off and went through quidco and got 8% cashback, hence just over £100.
