Camping

really beginning to think we are a bit nuts.

As said in another thread we are going camping on isle of wight next week. Campsite is on top of a cliff and last time we went a few years ago quite a few tents were destroyed.

Just looked at forecast - I really really hope it changes (may do yet). Its predicted to be cold with frequent rain/sleet/snow showers and sharp frosts (dunno if they will reach isle wight though)

erk.

Have splashed out on a head torch as I realised with it going dark at 8pm the evenings are going to be long! A hot water bottle for dd - I have one and a fleece liner for my sleeping bag. No electric hook up.

We might go to cinema one night. That will keep us warm! And ermmm, maybe bowling if theres a bowling alley somewhere. pub lots.
I have to say staying at home seems infinitely more appealing - I'm turning into a wimp!

Any other suggestions for survival?

IOW has lots of indoor attractions, at least you can go to them. Not like, say, camping in bad weather on the Outer Hebrides, where there is NOTHING to do when it rains.

Still too cold and wet for us to go camping though, unless the weather really perks up.

lol - I'll remember not to book Outer Hebrides for the autumn then I'll have to do some research. I have booked a guided fossil hunt - if the weathers bad we'll put on our waterproofs.

Forgot to say - have also ordered some delta pegs so we don't end up floating in the channel!

thanks beansontoast - your name is pretty cool

here iheartdusty

have been on a couple of different ones round the country before and they are fab for helping you understand the local geology and also for 'getting your eye in'. We've found some really cool fossils round britain.
