Vintage Canvas Frame Tent....

I popped into a charity shop today in town as I am on a search for an old Thermos. There, sitting in a corner were two long canvas bags. I just 'knew' what they were!

I asked the lady how much it was, - a four person canvas frame tent - she said, "oooh, how about TEN POUNDS?

I have just pitched it in the garden - single handed and i am in love. I wanted to see if it was complete and actually to see what it looked like as I had NO idea! There is not a mark on it and it smells sooooo good! Not all sweaty and synthetic, but yummy and materially. I already have a Coleman Cedar Creek, but this frame tent went up in about 20 minutes. It even has curtains! [swoon] Only downside is that although the bedroom has a thick rubber SIG and lovely canvas walls, the main tent has no groundsheet. It is an old tent - maybe late 70s, so I will have to search a bit for one.

I think I will need to re-proof it though - does anyone know a good waterproofer?

Any other canvas frame tent lovers out there?

Me!

We also have a 1970s canvas frame tent. Orange, with green go-faster stripes. And, of course, curtains.

Ours is a 6 person I think. Plenty of room for the 4 of us anyway.

Always easy to spot our pitch on returning to a busy campsite

Orange and green! This one is blue with purple and turquoise triangle corners.

I was going to wait until the spring break to take her out, but I dont think I can wait until then.... Looks like Easter weekend will be the first camp this year.

Am off to sew bunting

Wow lucky you!

I'd go for Fabsil for waterproofing, you can get it at places like Millets and B&Q sell large tarps that you can cut to the right size and punch eyelets in the right places...

do we have a photo of your new addition yet? [grub]

Thanks Lucycat for the tip on waterproofer and groundsheet. I hatehatehate slugs.

Flora - I wanted a bell tent too. Until today . I am thinking that it will be warmer too, in the colder months AND i can cook in it. How are you finding the bell tent? They do look lovely.

Oh, I am so excited.

but how do you fit everything else in the car with those monster canvas tents? We borrowed one once and it took up the whole boot!

Kbear - I too thought they would be huge, but this one is actually a smaller pack than my Coleman and fits into my car (v small boot) more easily.

I pitched it again yesterday with some help from new partner (it will be our 'weekend' tent) and together it took us less then 10 minutes to put up the frame and outer canvas without pegging it down.

We also waterproofed it with Nikwax - but it seemed to run straight off in most areas. I am hoping this is a GOOD sign! and that this means the original waterproofing is still active.

The love just keeps growing!
