As we usually camp with our two dogs, we use a travel cot for the baba with a big folded blanket under it to keep the chill off the cot. Works a treat! Travel cot v useful when camping generally we've found.

We've just bought a small tent for one of us and our baby to sleep in (he's 5 months) when we go away in the camper van - any recommendations for lightweight travel cots? I quite like the look of the peapod bed but can't find a stockist in the UK. I'm also not sure what age it would be suitable for.

sorry for hijacking your thread!

We have a snuggle nest for the first six months, used on our bed, then baby will upgrade to a travel cot- trick for warmth in a travel cot is to stuff underneath with blankets etc as insulation

I used a full size sheep-skin rug under and blankets around DD, rolled up in case she rolled over in the night, plus she was in pyjamas, a sleeping bag and under two blankets.

Foam carrymats are better insulation than blankets under travelcots as they dont get damp. also if u get a cheap one (£4.99) you can cut it in half if it's too big and make bum mats to sit on out of the rest!!

Hi we have used a Nomad travel cot since our little one was 6 months old. Its excellent, only weight 2. somthing kgs and can be used outside as has upv protection etc. We love it and he can go on using it until he is about 4.
It is very easy to put up and takes up not much room ( in a very full trailer or car!!)
We also use it when visiting friends and family or as recently he had to stay over night with a friend as I was rushed into hospital. It meant he was sleeping in an environment he knew (we camp for around 6 weeks over the summer so it is like a second home to him).
They are not cheap but last a lot longer than normal travel cots and the weight and size for us outweighed the additional cost.

It's easy enough to camp with a littly - a travel cot or playpen is a good idea if they're mobile just so you can keep them safe.

sit them in their pushchair to feed them and put them in plenty of layers to sleep so they don't get cold.

We took 3mo on our first time camping as a test for the tent and us. It was fine. We have a this travel cot which is great. Would be useful for out in the sun as well, as has insect net, and you can get a sunshade for it.
