Hi we want to go camping in May with a group of about 5 other families. We all live in Merseyside and want to find a campsite that is suitable for families, all the children in our group are about 3 years. We dont want to travel too far away maybe about 1 1/2 hours, but all want to be able to camp together, and just ahve a nice weekend. Any suggestions on a good campsite please within 1 1/2 of liverpool? A bit further if its a must!

What about Shell Island just south of Harlech. There would be loads of space for the children to run round and as it's on the beach it's lovely. The facilities tend to get busy but as you don't need to book you would be able to pitch near each other.

A big crowd of us used to go to Glanllyn on the shores of Bala lake. Good, hot showers, masses of space and direct access to the lake (down one end so still safe with small kids). You need to book, especially if going at a bank holiday.

Hi Lucycat, thanks I have heard about shell island, just one thing, my daughter is petrified of the sea, and generally wont go within about 15ft of it. Would you say that then shell island could be a bit tricky for us, I dont want to be stressed with her having a tantrum over the water. She likes water and playing around water its just the sea. I have a friend who has been there twice and says its great.

Shell island is set in the dunes so you can't actually see the sea form the campsite and when the tide is out the beach is huge - might be a good way to introduce the sea?
