CM it's fab!!! The pool is great fro kids - mine lovd the little bridge over it!! Shallow kiddie bit and deeper adult bi. Slides are great. Loads of play areas for the kids and the kids club was excelelnt when we were there.

Outside the campsite to the left as you are leaving it there is a mini golf. Past that you'll go past Clarys plage campsite then there is a smallish Champion supermarket an some small shops, bars and restaurants. The beach is in walking distancea nd it's nice - not as dramatically fantastic as the main St jean beach but we enjoyed it!!

The campsite restaurant is lovely, we ate there a few times. Mostly pizzas, pasta, salads, hamburgery type things and nice cheap wine!! When we arrived our mobile wasn't ready and we had to sit out on the terrace by the pool for lunch!! Great start!

In the morning get there early for croissantsa nd baguettes - but they are lovely! If they sell out you can always go to the bakers next to the Champion supermarket! We never foud the PO in that wee cluster of shops open!!! It was ALWAYS shut! But you can buy stamps etc at receptiona nd the shop.

You can drive to the main beach at St jean de Monts which is lovely - great huge exapnse of gorgeous sandy beach but it can get busy! there are lovely woodland areas between the beach and campsite for bike rides and walks and plently of cycle paths.

There's a big aqua park not far from the camp sie but we didn't go as our kids were 3 and 4 and more than happy with all the camp site facilities. they did one mini disco a week.

Only bad thing that happened was that one o our neighbours had her washing stolen froma washing machine. Could happen anywhere I suppose but that was the only negative thing to the whole holiday. I tend to take a book if I go to the laundry on any campsite and wait.

there are supermarkets etc around St jean but we drove to St Giles Croix de Vie where they ahve huge hypermarkets and go more choice - and a bit cheaper. that's a lovely wee town with a habour, nice shops, bars etc and a carousel on the bridge.

You have to do a day trip to le Puy de Fou - a fantastic park with different 'lands' - they've built a giant replica of the coliseum for example and act out a Roman show. there's all sorts going on Vikings, jousting knights, - look it up online www.puydefou.com it's fantastic. You HAVE to go!!!

There's also a fab cheap day out at les dunes in Bretignolles sur Mer/Bem sur mer www.parcdesdunes.com a short drive away - it's good clean (ish!) honest fun - all sorts of bouncy huge inflatable things to play on and the luges were great - we spent about 6 hours there and could have stayed longer but were knackered! It's like a non mechanised alton towers - like Britain might have been like in the 1950's!!!

We took a picnic like all the other Brits then sat and looked on enviously as this French family sat at the cafe and quaffed wine and LOBSTER!!!!

We also did a trip to the isle fo Noirmoutier on a dampish day and visited the sealife centre there. The amin town (where Sealife is - can't remember the name!) is worth a wander round - obligatory carousel which our dc had to go on in the main sq!

Le planete sauvage www.planetesauvage.com is a fab safari park just outside Nantes. Cheaper than Woburn etc and you get closer to some of the animals. We've been twice and had a fantastic day out.

I'll have a look at the photos tonight and see if I can remember any more!!

Tc!

don't let the story of the stolen washing put you off - we (and all others) left washing outsidea nd a Batman tent full of toys outside (unlocked) and nothing was taken. They were just unlucky. We felt safe and felt that our stuff was safe too. The couple concerned had out htere washing on, gone back to van, had lunch (with abottle or so of wine), had a snooze then gone back to get it. Not nice but not an everyday occurence. Didn't want to worry you!!!

Thank you, lots of great info. DH will be delighted about beach, supermarket etc being walk-able because, although he's happy to drive us to the campsite, he doesn't want to be in the car everyday.
Parc des dunes sounds excellent. We went to St Jean once before when the DC were tiny, and in early season so it will be fun to experience it it full swing.
puy du fou is a must, playmobil come to life!! (your link didn't work for me)

I've just ordered the Angela Bird Vendee guidebook.
Have you booked a holiday yet?

yeah we've decided to try Italy this year - camping Portofelice just north of venice. Looks like a bigger site than we're used to but we're flying and not hiring a car so need somewhere with loads for the kids to do! Gonna be weird this eyar having to pack things into suitcases rather than just filling the car!

have you decided on ferries etc?

Poole-Cherbourg overnight going out, evening crossing home. My DC are already fighting over who gets which bunk, and looking forward to the magician on the way back
