Vendee campsites - La Yole or Clarys-Plage?

OK, after lots of research I have narrowed down to two campsites! Has anyone been to either La Yole or Clarys-Plage?

We will be going early summer before the holidays start and have a toddler.

Thanks

We stayed at Acapulco (can throroughly recommend!!) which is next door to Clarys PLage. Had a wander round and it looked good. It is in an excellent location, next to a crazy golf place, local bars, restaurants and a supermarket. Walking distnace to small beach. Not far from large water park and the beaches of St jean. Fab places nearby. Haven't been to la Yole tho. Only problem I saw with CP is that the camp site is split across a main road so you would need to check that you are gonna be in the main part of the site to avoid crossing the road every time you wanted to go to bar, pool etc.

Ooh - OK - thanks for that top tip. Good to hear it is walking distance to the beach as am planning on spending the least amount of time possible in the car once we're there!

We stayed at Les Genets, smaller site literally next door to Clays Plage - we walked past it every day to the beach.

We looked around it, was "posher" but pricier than our site, but the kids much preferred the (v.warm!) rapids and slides on our site. There is no shop on Clarys Plage, but local shops are cheaper.

It's a great area, but we found driving to the beach easier (for tired kids) as it is v.close & loads of free parking. We cycled into St Jean a few times and visited LOADS of placed. You HAVE to visit Le Puy de Feu (loads of other threads on this)

les Genets

Thank you - the more I look at different sites the more confused I get!

That area is lovely so whichever site you choose you will have a good time.

The link I gave was for Matthews holidays - one of the cheapest around! They also go to Clarys Plage so worth comparing the prices.

We stayed in their smallest van, and boy it IS small, but 4 of us (kids aged 11 & 16) fit in once the luggage was unpacked, and you dont spend THAT much time in the van anyway. We went late August - back just at start of Sept term, for 12 nights, Portsmouth Cherbourg crossing (Fastcraft - NOT recommended, known as Vomit Comet ) and WITH insurance etc was

Definitely go for Clarys Plage not La Yole. I used to work for a camping company years ago (on Acalupco site) and spent some time helping on La Yole, it is a very small site, therefore the facilited will be fairly limited and it is further from beach / supermarket (not walking distance).

Have a great holiday where ever you go !

Yes, I have looked at Matthews - as we are going out of season they all seem about the same price! DD is v excited and has already started packing her suitcase - we're not going til June!

If going out of season book with canvas and get one of their luxury vans with a dish washer!!! Don't even wanna think how much they cost peak season! I wouldn't book a tiny van out of season in case of the weather not being fantastic. We had 4 days of rain last year and were glad we had the bigger mobile as we spent a bit more time in it than normal and had space to get clothes etc dried off! We did go out and about but enitably did spend more time indoors than we would have done.

La Yole is quite big. Excellent facilities, I've not been, but friends have gone there twice.

If you want a smaller site, look out Domaine de la foret in St Julienne des landes. 160 pitches and fabbo. Inland though

le Clarys Plage is great, the local supermarket backs onto the site, so you get local prices not campsite prices. The beach is walkable, although we went in Whitsun week so didn't spend much time at the beach. We hired bikes from next to the site (they have child seats too) and used them all the time. Good site, highly recommended
