Dp and I are planning to get married in secret next year and we were discussing a honeymoon.

We are at our happiest when camping and I thought it would be a lovely way to spend our honeymoon and in one of my books I had an article about camping in a luxury yurt which looked so romantic- has anyone else done something similar?

yes we have been discussing getting married for a while , dp wanted a traditinal wedding and I wanted to nip to the registry office. Having spent time with my familyu on holiday my dp now understands why I don't want a bog family wedding and he has come round to my way of thinking that what is important is being married and not the wedding.

They do look amazing, we just love camping and I thought it was a way of having a honeymoon that reflected who we are but perhaps in a more luxuroius mode.

We have just come back from a weekend camping in the lakes which despite all the things that went wrong - including hvaing to sleep on a cliff edge in the car - it was one of the most romantic weekends we have ever had including those where we have paid a fortune to stay in posh hotels.

not camping per se- but a friends last year who married hired a luxury VW campervan ( it was lovely) and travelled around the west country.

Hi There

My and my DH stayed in a static caravan for our honeymoon at a lovley site in wales called Ogwen Bank.

We loved camping and wanted to stay in the UK and we had a fantastic time walking in Snowdonia, exploring and spending time in the caravan .

we were used to tents so a static van was a luxury to us then!!!! This was 13 years ago.

I think you should do what you want and enjoy it.

We did

We spent 3 weeks touring europe in our soft top sports car with a tent, a couple of sleeping bags and a camping stove. It was very nice indeed. We made it as far as rome and venice (though we stayed in a hotel in Venice)

One memorable sunday night in Austria though when it absolutely tipped down. Our tiny two man tent leaked so we sat in the car. Only the roof leaked so we had an umbrella out of the window held over the leak. There was nowhere to get food so we ate wurst and drank beer that we had procured from a garage whilst we looked out at the rain in the dark. I look back with fond memories!

Not our honeymoon - but always for our anniversary. Leave the children with grandparents and head off with the small tent .

A luxury yurt sounds lovely to me.

DH & I toured northern Italy on a motorbike with a tent. It was a fantastic honeymoon.

Would like to do something similar with the children & a car in a few years time. We need to save as the only way I will do this is to put the car on the train from Calais to Nice.
