Camping

Holmsley - New Forest

Sorry, me again. So now I've sorted out the campsite for this weekend, I started the search for one for the bank holiday. I range Forest Holidays and it turns out they still have places at Holmsley, which I seem to remember had good reviews here? The reviews at ukcampsite are mixed and I'm a bit worried about it being overcrowded and not being able to find two good pitches on a Friday evening or Saturday morning and most importantly the wild ponies - DH and DD1 would both freak out if approached by one (although it'd be quite amusing for me!). Has anyone been there at peak times so they can let me know if it does get very busy?

We were there three weeks ago

sadly the place wasn't to our taste. The pitches were stonta nd we did struggle to find a good one as the pitching wasn't managed at all. And the ponies do often congregate around the gate, though they can't get on site.

Best forest holidays one I know of is Christchurch, but probably too far for you. I did like Holmsley

Haven't done Holmsley, only Holland's Wood but I guess there's a bit of overlap:

I'd get there as early as you can manage on the Friday as even more poepl will trun up Saturday morning.
The ponies don't approach you - you normally only see them on site on 4am loo trips.

We've just got back from the New Forest. Stayed in a wooden chalet type thing so can't help with the op but just wanted to say how lovely the whole area is.
Luckily we had amazing weather but its all just so nice round there.
Highcliffe castle beach was gorg. And Mudeford beach great for sand, beach huts etc.

My 2 were a bit nervous of the wild ponies coming up to us when we were having our picnic but not as bad as dh!!!

quick coffee is good, or you can do a dump-and-run if you'd rather not sit about with the kids. 2pm ish? 3?

3pm would be good to get naps out of the way. Cafe Noir or Bonjour?

shall we say 3 at Bonjour? (I like their cake )

Sorted Mrs B. DD1 likes Cafe Bonjour more than the park (which I'm happy with

And so is the campsite! I just booked Christchurch. They only had 4 pitches left and we need two so just went ahead and booked. God knows how we're going to manage to get two pitches together when we arrive.

If we arrive earlier than the other family and we do find two places together, what is the etiquette re hogging the other place until they arrive?

excellent!

if you fin a good space, park your car really badly in it, picth up quick, then move the car when the other people come

Ah you'll be OK, very nearby us actually- its our alst minute run place

make sure you head down to Symonds yat- there's a wonderful pub by the river as well (saracens Head) that does incredible sunday lunches and the most amazing kids meals (asparagus rissotto!)
