tent queens: challenge!

i challenge you to pleeeeease find me a tent that meets the following criteria (cos am buggered if i can find one)...

we're looking for a weekend tent, mostly for use at festivals. it needs to sleep 4 and store gear and have enough living room to sit in if wet in mornings, but won't be spending much time in it during day. dp is insisting on full standing height, pref in bedrooms too. pack size/weight critical as may have to carry sizable distance and need to fit all terrain buggy in boot too . oh and it has to be properly waterproof. i aint sleeping in no gazebo and i don't see soaking sleeping bags as all part of the experience.

ESSENTIAL
small pack size/lightweight - ideally less than 20kg
sleeps 4 side by side/single compartment (young kids)
6" standing height in living area

POSSIBLY NEGOTIABLE
standing height in bedroom(s)
SIG
windows
small footprint (i.e. sleeps 4 +large living area OR sleeps 6 +small living area)

PRICE
up to £200 (although some flexibility)

closest i've found so far:

peakland matlock not standing height bedroom
outwell colorado 5 no SIG, dp has irrational dislike of this one
khyam xl excelsior no SIG, is £300 +groundsheet
outwell oregon 5 is really good pack size but no SIG also has door direct into bedroom which don't like at all security-wise.
robens evening star xl no SIG, is slightly more space than we need, is nearly £500
coleman cedar creek ideal in every other way but too damn big/heavy

so, does this tent exist? a beer and a bacon sarnie if you find one

just because I'm bored could you explain SIG????

ps if that all wasn't enough i'd really really like doors on opposite sides so can get a decent throughdraught going on in case of scorcher [ever the optimist smiley]

We bought a Khyam kansas which is also know as khyam ontario. £199 SIG, has a area that can sleep 4 or will sleep 8 with other 2 compartments. It is heavy though as I think its nearly 30kg.

sig is sewn in groundsheet. is good to keep creepies out and crawlies (dd2 next summer) in

Do you want to sleep altogether, or you could have 1 adult, 1 child in each compartment?

Maybe try & put a post on here ukcampsite.co.uk i am sure there are very experienced tent people on there who may be able to find you something.

ooh now the oregon looks veeery close. it's the shorter bedroom compartments that's the only sticking point. on my travels i've found a few that tick all the boxes except that one, but it's quite a biggie for dp. in the past we've had inebriated people fall on tent - one who decided to sleep where he fell - which is no fun at all when you have small kids with you. a taller sleeping compartment makes that much less likely to happen, so i'm sympathetic with dp's feelings on that although it does narrow our options considerably.

ideally side by side sleeping compartments w/zipped door (rather than toggly curtain) but def NOT adult/child at either end, that'd be no fun at all

I think if you want the taller compartments you may have to give a little on the weight as it is hard to find a taller one with a weight around the 20kg mark.

puppydavies · 05/08/2007 08:11

besides, have double mat and double sleeping bag.

puppydavies · 05/08/2007 08:13

yeah, am realising that

have slightly more leeway on weight than size - can cart tent in buggy if necess, but really need it to be compact to get everything into boot. have seen a few around the 22kg mark, but def don't want anything over 25.

Have a look at the Millets website.

Report
puppydavies · 05/08/2007 09:34

nothing at millets

colorado 5 is def in the running, although can't see quite how slopey the bedroom is. think dp may have to get over his irrational dislike.

have never had tent without sig (am posh vango girl [preen]) it's the baby escaping through the gap thing i'm most worried about - has anyone any advice on that? is it only some styles that are big enough to crawl through or all non-sig?
