Looking for a simple site near a beach on the continent. Just the basics showers, loos washing up and near lovely area or beach. Not looking for a holiday park with lots of facilities - anyone know how i can find?

I can really recomend l'estorbiet ( probably spelt that wrong) in France. Contact me for further details, and it depends on the age of your children, but it is a lovely site - clean, entertainment, pool, lake, playground and run by English speaking Dutch!

We stayed at Le Dornier in the Vendee Region - mostly French people in tents but a few static caravans run by 'Vendee Loisirs Vacances'.
You can pitch your own tent or caravan there. It backs on to dunes and huge quiet sandy beach. It's about 5 miles from the bustling (and rather naff) resort of St Jean de Monts.
Lots to do nearby - hire canoes on the salt marshes, forest activity trails , trotting races & horse races nearby, salt pans, plus all the usual seaside stuff.

We stayed at a camp site in September last year, we were there for a wedding,in Audenge in France it's about 45 mintues outside Bordeaux.

It was very basic, but had showers, loos, washing up and a washing machine and dryer, you had to buy tokens from the reception area to use them. It had a lovely pool as well.

There was a harbour area you could visit and there was also a sea water pool down by the harbour that you could go to, we went once and it was very busy all the locals seemed to be there so very popular.

there were other towns nearby that you could go visit, and there was a huge sand dune that is a tourist attraction nearby, sadly we didn't manage to get there.

It was very quiet, but a nice place, we stayed in a lovely log cabin on the site but there were people in camper vans arriving for the weekend, there were trailers to rent and some people just came along and pitched a tent.

If you're interested I can give you a link to the website, let me know.

Thank you all for your suggestions, sorry not to get back to you before been a tough week. It looks like we are staying in the UK now as we are going to have a lot less money this year than we had originally thought, so if any of you have any good recommendations for Uk sites please let me know. My children will be one and three by the summer.
