Can you get hold of The Big Sites book a free publication by the Caravan and Camping club - Peachyclair is a member (so has a copy) so she may be able to advise you of sites in the areas you are looking at.

It shows smaller sites but they have to be of a certain standard iykwim.

Dolbryn campsite in Newcastle Emlyn in Wales is fantastic and was less than £10 a night for three of us. Very child friendly, owners as kind as can be, and they even have a bar a few night of the week but very quiet

Honestly it is one of the nicest places I have ever been to, the owners are fab. Bev even gets the kids to help to feed the animals (she is an ex childminder and it shows inhow kind she is to all the kids!)

Look up the reviews on the UK campsite website, I posted one there earlier this year.

fantastic site, will go back in a heartbeat

This was my review of it

'This is one of the nicest campsites I have ever visited. With a maximum of 60 pitches it is a quiet site set in beautiful countryside. There are three fields in use, the top field isn't used as much as the lower two.

The pitches are large. The wash facilities are excellent and cleaned several times each day, There are three showers each for men and women. There are three toilets for women and two for men (plus two urinals). In addition to these, there is a family wash room, which is accessible by those using wheelchairs. This makes washing the kids at the end of a day considerably easier than using most campsite showers.

The adventure playground is first rate and my children loved it. There is a sand pit for younger children which is covered each night. There is also a large trampoline with safety netting. If this doesn't wear the kids out there is a football pitch up at the top field.

The owners are kindness itself. It is obvious that they love the job and nothing is too much trouble for them. Bev runs a session in the mornings where the children are encouraged to help look after the many rabbits, chicks and goats that the site has. They also run family activities through the week.

There is a supermarket in Newcastle Emlyn, five minutes drive away. The town has all the usual amenities, and has a very helpful medical centre to help to deal with holiday accidents!

On-site there is a nice rustic bar (open 5 days a week), and children games room. But over all this is a beautiful quiet site. A perfect place for a family holiday. I can't recommend it highly enough and only wish that I lived close enough to make weekend visits a possibility. '

My mate Rhian wrote one that basically said 'Their loos are cleaner than mine'

Ohh there is a biiggggggg field where he could be as loud as he likes! They do keep to quiet hours though, 11 to 7 or 8 I think.

Actually I think the owners would be very 'understanding', in a good not patronising way IYSWIM, seriously nice people

essbee, iirc the 'same bedroom/familiar surroundings' issue is one of the reasons that Peachy loves camping with her ds's - it might be worth cat-ing her for some pearls of wisdom!

Blandmum · 29/12/2006 21:37

I think that Jimjams has gone campervanning with her ds1 for the same reason.
