Hello all
I would like need a tent/shelter to put our dining table and also to cook in if the weather is bad.
I am getting paranoid that the weather will break before I head off to Cornwall in a fortnight.
Can anyone recommend me something?

What are you looking for? All enclosed? A tarp? A gazebo? An event shelter?
It depends what you want.

coleman event shelter

Pricey but very versatile...you can have walls, or not. I see them dotted about and I think they look brilliant. They seem popular.

You can shop around for a good deal. Lots of places stock them.

Marshals have good deals on event shelters at the moment.....

Event shelter is fab, we have one. Very versatile and much more stable than a traditional gazebo

Gardenfeature - that looks like what I had in mind but was hoping for something cheaper.
That event shelter, is it stable?

Have been googling and Utility Tents all seem to be at least £100 ,or £90 if you shop around .
This windbreak or the tarp lower down are cheaper .

or a tarp www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/easy-camp-tarp.html

or maybe get one of these tent extensions and use it as a freestanding shelter . It has 2 poles and one end is supposed to attach to a specific tent ,but has guy ropes etc .

Event shelter is a much better design than a traditional gazebo, it's curved. Honestly ours have withstood really bad rain/wind etc and hasn't bent.
If your worried, just remove cover and leave frame up

The event shelter looks good but is beyond my budget.
Gingeroots, do you think the tent extension would stay up on its own if not attached to a tent?

I think it would and so does Blu .... see here
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/camping/2141323-impulse-buy-tent-awning-that-isnt-going-to-fit-anyone-cheer-me-up

maybe others could advise ?

I did notice ( after I'd clicked ) that it's got steel poles ,which might be a bit heavy ?

What about a tarp www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/easy-camp-tarp.html plus a windbreak ?
www.sportsdirect.com/gelert-breeze-blocker-wind-break-789073

I find the stripey beach ones heavy with the wooden poles and a bit hard to put up so personally would go with the lighter ones .

I pmsl laughing at blu's thread there. Grin
Shame for her...but looking at the two items concerned, I boggle at her logic. Lol.

We have a canvas tarp for cooking and dining. It's brilliant.

I think that canopy looks really practical. It's great to have standing head room, and you could all sit under it if it rains, or at night when DC in bed. We have a similar set up - a tent and a canopy that wasn't designed to go with it. The only difference is that our canopy has a longer flap that we put over the top of our tent, and tie it to the back. Like the earlier poster said, we just pitch the tent slightly under the edge of the canopy to get a bit of overlap.

To make it more stable you could attach guys to the rear edge of the canopy, and throw them all the way over your tent, and hook them onto something at the back of your tent.

you might need to make holes for the guys, grommet pliers would be helpful to stop them tearing (see youtube). Or better still use Clingons^

I've got that canopy too but with a long flap on one side that goes over the tent. It's bloody great!

Think it would prob stand up on its own if you had a few extra guy ropes and pegs...

Oh look Danny - just found this Gazebo with two walls for £44.49 on special offer at Argos .
You could add a couple more guy ropes for stability ?

Thank you WimpyDimple - I think there might be a longer flappy bit at the back which maybe doesn't show up on the pic .

I've actually had the thing delivered to the camp site but will have to wait until I'm down there to try it out .
