Bought www.amazon.co.uk/Gelert-Lakesbury-4-Canopy/dp/B004SKYHF2/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 to go with
www.decathlon.co.uk/arpenaz-xl-3-tent-green-id_8300439.html

It was very cheap so not the end of the world but I'm so cross with myself . Stupid ,stupid ,stupid .

I suppose I'd like someone to say " oh it'll be ok " ,but it won't will it because of mismatch in heights and nothing to fix tent end of canopy to .

But failing that can I have stories of other people's wasteful ,inconsidered impulse clickey internet button mistakes ?

I think it might be OK, because the canopy is wider and higher than the tent and should be able to be free standing if you peg out allthe guys really tightly. Then you could just pitch the tent about a third inside the canopy with the canopy overlapping.

How did you ever think it was going to fit seamlessly to your tent?

Can you not just refuse delivery though? Then I think Amazon return your money don't they (eventually)?

Then you could spash the cash on a Quechua tarp or similar.

Mmm - don't like to refuse delivery .

Blu - How did you ever think it was going to fit seamlessly to your tent? ...well ,I didn't think ,that was the problem Blush

Well I didn't think it through - I'd no idea such things as canopies existed ,never mind ones that you fit on to a tent . I just assumed it was free standing ....

I blame the heat and pre camping ( not been away for several years ) excitement ....

It's obviously going cheap as the Geleert Lakesbury 4 now appears to be out of stock everywhere - shame because it looks like quite a handy tent.

Try it out and see if it will stand up independently (no reason why it shouldn't, especially as it has tension bands and quite sturdy looking poles) you can just itch your tent a bit underneath - good result, and better, I think that a Decathlon tarp.

If it doesn't, sell it on here to anyone who has the matching tent!

Thanks Blu .
I do feel silly ,think I should have saved the money .

DH has gone on ahead to campsite and I had just had excited phone call from him ,it's sooo long since I've been away and I think I had a rush of blood to the head and just wasn't thinking !

Actually I'm so enjoying being on this bit of MN it's almost like a substitute holiday . And no rain !

Thanks for the link as we've just bought a (different) bargain canopy, which matches the colour of our new tent, and this colour was hard to find. There's future karma out there for you for unknowingly helping a MN stranger. Grin

I agree that you might have to just try it and see and there might be advantages. If you were to go for a better fitting canopy you would have lower headroom than what this offers. We had a unmatching canopy and tent combo for our last tent and it was ok.

I think that canopy looks really practical. It's great to have standing head room, and you could all sit under it if it rains, or at night when DC in bed. We have a similar set up - a tent and a canopy that wasn't designed to go with it. The only difference is that our canopy has a longer flap that we put over the top of our tent, and tie it to the back. Like the earlier poster said, we just pitch the tent slightly under the edge of the canopy to get a bit of overlap.

To make it more stable you could attach guys to the rear edge of the canopy, and throw them all the way over your tent, and hook them onto something at the back of your tent.

you might need to make holes for the guys, grommet pliers would be helpful to stop them tearing (see youtube). Or better still use Clingons

Thank you traviata that's really helpful and the clingons look great .
