Campsites for tents in Scotland

Hi, we moved up to Scotland recently and are looking for places to camp with our children. We don't really like big sites with lots of motor homes etc... much prefer small places that only really take tents eg www.comriecroft.com/sleep/eco-camping.html but can't seem to find many places? Anyone been anywhere lovely? Thanks

Try searching sites at Arisaig. Invercaimbe is excellent and really small (one of our fav's when kids were wee). Big Sands at Gairloch is 'big' but well spread out and the tents pitch nearer the beach, in dunes if you so wish and the caravans and motor homes are generally well away from there, although you may find the odd one in the 'tent' area. Kids roam free among the dunes and it never feels full! Avoid the area near the loos unless you love being surrounded by other families and all their kids! It's known as 'pod valley' by us as it's full of family sized tents...it is near the play area too so completely understandable!
How far are you prepared to travel? We're near Perth so everywhere is about the same distance for us!!
I think Comrie Croft may be in a league of its own though. Have you tried wild camping?

Red Squirrel at Glencoe is meant to be good although I haven't been myself. There is a forest site at Rothiemurcus and Blinkbonny Wood in East Lothian is a bit like wild camping.

The forest site at Rothiemurchus is ok if you get far enough in, as they also generally keep the vans at the front (near the road). Great access straight onto cycle paths there too. The ground can be quite hard/uneven due to the tree roots so pack a decent mattress!! Oh... i think there's a wee quirky one near Nethy Bridge...Lazy Duck or something like that...never been there though!

Go a bit further to Glenbrittle on Skye - a little bit of (midgie) heaven right on the beach.

Can recommend Solway View in Dumfries & Galloway; they do have small number of caravans and some cabins, but mostly tents. It's a lovely site, quiet and scenic, with good facilities and the whole area is brilliant for a holiday. We've just spent 10 days there with dcs aged 11,9 and 5 and they loved it, there's loads to do.

Thank you all so much, those suggestions are great! We're in Dunblane so fairly easy access to lots of places :-)
