Jesus.

It's never going to go in the car, every long camping trip is always a massive swear fest, and this year we have added in a 40l iceytech AND a huge lanky second dog.

We are going to have to leave a child behind, that or the tent.

Plus our lovely neighbours who have kindly agreed to look after or rats while we are away seem to have disappeared, quite worried they have forgotten and gone away, I only spoke to them about it two days ago Confused

I normally go and buy the food or find some other reason to disappear while DH packs the car/trailer/roofbox with a skill that makes me think he plans it out with graph paper in the weeks prior to departure!!
Are the kids small enough that they don't require leg room? There is a lot of room in those foot wells!! Also anything soft goes on the middle back seat so ours can 'use it as a pillow'! We're talking driving from middle Scotland to the Tunnel then a month around France so we have 'selling the vision' of cramped space to them down to a tee!!
I'm sure the neighbours won't have forgotten?! Could you leave the rats (God I hope this isn't your nickname for the kids?) in their care and they could do they guilt trip on the proper carers when they return?! Bribes may work here...?

I'm going nowhere near the actual packing of the car Grin I assemble, leave everything by the door, then stay well clear while Dp packs.

All bar those that need to access pedals for the car will be sitting cross legged sui we can use the footwells, our first dog sits between the kids and I genuinely don't know what I am going to do with the other, strap it to the roof rack?

Pretty sure they have forgotten as I told them we were going today Grin, am hoping I can get another neighbour to pad on a key and instructions, add I am certain they have work on Monday.

Where you off to then?

Burnham Deepdale, cafe breakfasts ;)

Cannot lift the Icytech, but astonished at how much I have got in it, there is not an inch of space.

Have a tarp and no idea how I am going to use it yet.

Oh, it all takes so bloody long.

Just want to be there cooking sausages and admiring the view.

I've got an idea!!! Unpack the bags and everyone has to wear all their clothes!! Or dress the dogs?!! sorry...know that's not much help!

Haha Vipru, I would think you were me, but we have to stuff all of ours in an estate.

To top everything off we forgot the sodding sims, arse, so am trying to get comfy on a paper thick foam mat :(

And I nearly crashed the car when it looked like one of the dogs was going to be sick.

Still tent looks good.......

Oh no! SIM oversight fail Sad. I was gutted when I realised I'd forgotten to pack the Ikea sheepskins on the trip pictured above, I'd be a wailing mess if I forgot the mattress!

Hope you manage to get a half decent kip on your measly mat.

I forgot my pillow once and spent the first hour driving round the nearest town till I found one...

Well I've had better nights sleep, but it wasn't too awful.

Don't know what to do for the rest of the holiday having already spent £36!!! On four shit foam mats, I am loathe to spend any more but then crap sleep for a week is not going to be fun.

I forgot my pillow once and cried Grin

Could you buy new SIMs and sell on after holiday?

lentilpot · 15/07/2014 11:08

Get thee a double air mattress! Only about a tenner from argos etc, will see you through for the week and the foam mattresses will help insulate it (borrow a pump from a camp neighbour or you can get them up with just your mouth!). Kids will be fine on foam mats.

Jealous!

ViviPru - our solution is the same as yours. It's DH's work van but it has the 2nd row of seats and gets pressed into service for holidays. I can't see us ever going back to a car now!

Wow, when I go camping I take two panniers and strap the tent to the top of the pannier rack, something like this:
