keeping baby warm whilst camping?

Hello,
am taking 4 month old oliver camping to north wales in a couple of weeks and am worried about keeping him warm at night - he sleeps on his front so don't think a hat will work, I have a 2.5 tog growbag but he has this at home so am sure it won't be enough in tent - any tips? plus any other words of wisdom?

You need a 'Vango nitestar baby', great sleeping bag. Will you all be sleeping in the same room in the tent as that should be warmer.

Fleecy sleeepsuit - La Redoute do some lovely ones with built in feet, other than that layers I guess.

Whereabouts in North Wales are you going?

I got a vango nitestart bag for dd who we first took camping at 5mths old. IT is fantastic. the other bonus I noticed was even if she sweated a little it took the moisture through the bag to the outside and inside stayed dry. Plus inside tents of a night are actually surprisingly warm.

I went camping a few weeks ago with my 7 month old baby she was 6 months then, we brought one of the "Vango" sleeping bags & they are fab just what you need because it is very cold at night, also take some warm all in ones.

A little tip i got with the sleeping bag so the baby does not slide down into it if you put your little boy in it & then tie string to where his feet go to he will not be able to get lost in it, if that makes sense.

layers basically - cotton, wool, silk (!)

He needs a bodysuit, all in one sleepsuit ( plus socks on the outside of the sleepsuit), sleeping bag as per Lucycat's suggestion.

During the day he might need cotton tights under his trousers - I save dd's old ones for such times. Mid evening and early morning are particularly cold and damp ime.

Layers underneath can make a big difference, airbeds and roll mats can be really cold. Something that will help to stop drafts will help too.

I don't know the sleeping bag that others have mentioned but be careful - ds aged 2.5 recently slipped down in his and got very confused and frightened. I had to yank him out.

Gro-bag type one is best for little babies.

Last time we went camping we took DS's usual grobag (he was 7 months at the time) - TBH it didn't really work very well as his arms and hands were freezing, even with layers of clothes on aswell. Took him into bed with us (very squished - I couldn't sleep for nerves of squashing him) just to keep him warm.

We've since bought a vango nitestar but not had the opportunity to use it yet - glad its got good ratings from everyone though, not so dubious about going camping again now!

Good idea about tying off the bottom of sleeping bags for smaller children. Apart from worrying about squishing them having them in with you seems a good choice.
