and the weather forecast doesn't look much better for the weekend.

buggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbugger

We're away for 4 nights to North Wales in our folding camper - I suspect it's not going to be much fun if the rain is this heavy.

What are your wet weather fall backs while camping. Obviously go out anyway and try and find indoor activities, but failing that? Dses are 5 and 2, so while the older one would be thrilled with a few board games inside the camper while the rain pounds down overhead, I can't see ds2 being thrilled...

Watching with interest. We're off to a Festival tomorrow so it will be different to your situation,in that there will be bands to watch and circus skills to brush up on.
Mine are 12,6 and 2.I've got the Uno and a new Top Trumps packed.Bought them all a comic.Also....well,that's about it actually.....
I'm expecting the worst and then I won't be surprised IYKWIM.

What age can Uno be played from - I'm guessing it'll be beyond the 2 year old

Way beyond I'm afraid, but we get by with someone 'helping' him.We all cheat and strop and shout anyway.

lol - sounds fun

I can't help thinking that wet weather camping becomes slightly easier when they're old enough to play board games!!!

... has no-one got any sanity saving ideas?

If you see in the news about a campsite being washed off a cliff in north wales... that'll be us...

Are they too old for making a den under table with sheets over the top, torches etc? Sorry, I've come over all famous five....and macaroons and ginger beer for everyone huzzah!

LOL dwm ... it's a bit cramped inside the camper - not convinced they could fit under the table - but I'll try anything

I think I'm going to be in the same boat at you Georgina, we're off camping to Bakewell, Derbyshire tomorrow for a couple of nights, we're taking our very small portable radiator with us as there's nothing worse than it raining and your stuck in a cold tent!

Have you a portable dvd player? My ds who is also 2 loves to watch his Sing and Sign dvd's. Failing that, find an indoor amusement arcade! Hope the weather turns nice x

No portable DVD player Yes, we were thinking of taking our little convection heater with us - especially useful if we get soaking wet.

We take a lap top for iffy days, either when it is wet or too cold. We play a movie and have a family showing, snuggled up in sleeping bags....rather fun.

If it rains we don't go. or we retreat to a hotel or come home early. Camping should be fun not an endurance test.

GeorginaA · 17/08/2006 14:48

Fennel if it was just supposed to be a weekend, then I'd agree with you. However, it took us ages to find a campsite for these 4 nights as ds1 was soooo insistent he wanted to be near a beach. I haven't the heart to declare the holiday null and void quite yet.

lol - I'm with you Georgina, no fun being cold and wet, I'm all for a cheap holiday but I don't want to be miserable and come home with flu! Hope you enjoy your break away. Where are you going?

GeorginaA · 17/08/2006 15:12

Aberafon - near Caernarfon. Campsite has its own private beach which ds1 is THRILLED about.

Haven't been there, it looks lovely, let me know what you thought of it when you get home.

Have you been to the Plassey, Wrexham, we like it there. I also absolutely love Park Foot Caravan Park in Ullswater, Lake District.

GeorginaA · 17/08/2006 15:18

I've heard so many good things about the Plassey... but ds1 was sooo insistant about being near the sea! It's on my list of places to go next year

yes, defintely try it, there's a small swimming pool on site that only charges £1 an hour, be warned though, the lady?? keeping an eye on things in there is a right dragon!

Park Foot is beautiful, lovely clean facilities, shop that cooks fresh bread every morning and the best bit..... a small restaurant on site that cooks breakfasts!! I woke up early and treated myself, before going back to the tent to cook for everyone else! Bliss!!!

georgena, the laptop works really well. We have sweeties or popcorn. Picking a film that everyone will watch can be a tricky job though.

We save it up for after dinner and before bedtime IYSWIM

Ooo yum - cooked breakfasts on site sounds FAB!

lol- forgot to say, there's a lovely clubhouse where you can sit at nice tables and have a drink or two and the children can have a dance as well. I'm definately going back there when the school holidays are over. Put it in your favourites!!!

Have done - have an ever growing list

Is a shame that we only get one full week a year to go further a field - for weekends we're really restricted to sites 1/1.5 hrs drive from Worcester (fortunately, we love Forest of Dean, so not really a hardship )

Have you been to Lickhill in Stourport? It was lovely there, do you want me to stop adding to your favourites now?
