Camping

Fantastic campsite In Dorset (near Lulworth)

We've recently returned from 9 nights in Dorset at a lovely campsite, it cost us £90 for a family of 6 in a lagre tent. The campsite is called Steepleleaze, its basically a working farm with four huge fields in a gorgeous valley, the view are stunning, and there are plenty of level places to pitch up. Loads and loads of space, campfires allowed, wood can be bought off farmer or collected off the floor from woods adjoining site. It's very peaceful with the odd folkey group pitching up and playing some tunes, but the farmer takes no shite (ejected aload of campers after a 4.00 am row). The fascilities are basic, with no showers but if you can brave it for a few nights it is certainly worth it.

Wish I had known that before paying loads to go to Parkwell Holiday Camp not far from Lulworth - we plumped for the gold lodge which turned out to be a wood clad portakabin smelly dampy thing in a crappy park which didn't even have a bath mat and the floor was grosse!!!!

I told them that if we had a gold one I wouldn;t let a bloody dog sleep in what must have been the bronze one!!!

Ooh thanks, just saw a link on another discussion about a lovely looking seafood restaurant in West Lulworth and have been thinking about the area for next year.

dodothatvoodoo - wonder if we were at the same site? - on the coast from Chideock..big site, lots of caravans, but no supervision from what we could see - lots of noise in the night, and groups of rude teenagers.

Which site at Chideock was it? as we were there a fortnight ago and would agree re the rude teenagers and our pitch was shocking too, but that's a whole different story

We were there last week mykidsmum! Thanks for the recommendation as were camping on the 'wrong side' of Wareham for the traffic jams! so the 'other side' would be much better.

Hi, we drove up to have a look at this particular campsite when we stayed at the site mentioned at the beginning of the thread. IMO it was very holiday camp, with tents crammed in and no real outside space between them. In terms of fascilities i think it looked good but was really not for me, has great access to nearby walks etc.

Hi, This sounds exactly like a place we just stayed at!
I did a search on steepleleaze, and found nothing.
It wasn't Eweleaze was it?
It's only open in August?

No but I know where you mean, near osmington?? We went and had a look their too, its fabulous, with solar showers etc and views of the sea, it was a bit pricey for us as we are a family of six and they charge per person. Did you like it?

Yes thats the one. Sounded exactly the same!
Is steepleleaze open all year ? gets excited!

We loved it!!
Very back to basics, but the camp fires and the sea views/winds made it special. It also had a private beach.
We'll definately go back next year(with a porta potti) the loos were holes in the ground

rbj949703 - just looked at your link. It looks like a fab site. Is there plenty to do in the surrounding area? We like to go out and about when on hol? whats the beach like?

TwoToTango, we spent most days off site. We went into Weymouth 3 or 4 times for the beach and shopping. Sea Life Centre, Adventure Golf, Nothe Fort, Poole, Bournemouth (although couldn't persuade DH to go, so that's one on the list for next year), Tank Museum, Swanage and loads more.
