Camping

I have a specific les Valades question...

I know a number of people on here have been, are going etc so I hope someone will be able to help. I've emailed the campsite twice in the last week and had no response (which is a bit worrying in itself!)

We have hired a fridge from them but we don't have an EHU lead, do we need to take one or is it provided with the fridge we hire? If we do need to take one can somebody point me in the right direction for adapters and so on.

Thanks!

Their fridges will plug directly into the sockets and the 'new Monsieur' has all manner of adapters to help you but the lead on the fridge probably won't be long enough.
We were at Les valades last week and temps reached 37c one day (yes there was thunder rolling around the hills that night but no rain) We had lovely weather!
We overcame the French socket issue using a bit of wood stuck in the 'extra' English hole - don't ask! but it worked.
You'll love Les Valades, we have been 3 times now and it is still v special.
We are now down on the Med coast at Serignan Plage - fabulous weather, stunning beach and we've just bought 1.5l of red wine for 2 euros - life is good.
Enjoy Les Valades

Thanks Lucycat - I'm still a bit unclear though, should we take a EHU cable to make up the length? And an adaptor? Sounds like if we pitch close to the socket it will be fine but if we do 't we will need a cable plus adaptor, is that right?

I'm really, really looking forward to it, our first non UK camping trip!

HairyMaclary - I'm also interested as we are going there next week. I was intending to get an adapter and extension here and assumed that a friendly person in our local camping shop would point me in the right direction regarding what I might need....

We will be there at the same time then hillbilly! We arrive Tuesday next week and leave the following Tuesday.

We never usually camp with EHU and the cables and adapter comes to about £50 so if I don't have to buy one I'd prefer not to!

I'd say that yes you would need a longer ehu cable with a French socket adapter to get the electricity from the box to your tent and then a French/Uk socket adapter to go on the fridge socket into your uk ehu - if that makes sense?
We needed one of these to attach our UK ehu to and then plug the fridge in - instead we used a stick (electricity off!) to open up the 3rd hole in the ehu so that the 2 pins of the French plug could go in it - ignoring all H&S Smile
As most people at Les Valades are Dutch they don't have this problem!

Hi all, yes I'd say you will need the long EHU and if you're buying one, I'd get as long as possible as the pitches are large and if you have enough cable, you'll be able to position your sockets exactly where you want them in/outside the tent too.
G'day Lucycat, guess what, we now live in the Dordogne!!! Just to make you a little envious Envy!!!
Still going to Les Valades next week though, it's that good everyone! But now live an hour away rather than day and a half!
Enjoy, it's fabulous.

Fantastic! Thank you all, I was getting little worried as I'd had no response from the campsite owners. I think I've sorted everything out now, going to borrow most of it as we never usually camp with EHU and it's all new to me!

Pleased to hear about wifi, I've downloaded the gofrance camping app that looks really useful but roaming costs were worrying me?

One week to go ...

We are there the week after next too! Feeling slightly apprehensive as we have never stepped foot in France. Also this will be our longest camping trip yet. After a few uncomfortable nights sleep on our last trip I'm on the hunt for a new air bed - I'm not good without my sleep! lucycat what's the temperatures like at night? I need to try and pack lightly but wonder if we need jumpers etc. can't wait Grin

you'll be fine! We're in desperate need of a bed too not sure what to get. I'm going to be wondering who the mumsnetters are now and looking for clues Grin

I know I will be on the lookout for the Brits. read there's a lot of Dutch so I'm reckoning most of the Brits will be Mnetters! I will be the knackered looking one with two gobby kids so you'll spot me a mile off Grin

maish have you paid the full amount or just the deposit? It says to pay full amount 30 days prior but they have only taken the deposit. Have tried to email them but they don't reply!

We will also be there a week on Sunday. I hadn't thought about paying the balance. I think when we booked (with the previous owners) the arrangement was to pay the balance on arrival and I haven't looked since.

What sort of price are meals at the restaurant?

I was also wondering if we will need to layer up at night or if it stays warm.

Fingers crossed for lovely weather!

I've only paid the deposit and just assumed we'd pay the rest on arrival - might double check

We're arriving there on Sunday :-)

I didn't know you could hire a fridge for your own tent. How much is it to hire one Hairy?

I've only paid the deposit too and the email from the previous owner just said to pay the balance on arrival.

I've read somewhere else that the campsite only takes cash for everything, that might have changed with the new owner though.
