Thinking of going to the Alps camping in the school holidays with DD aged 6 & DS aged 4 with DH. we will stop just below paris then drive to Chamonix. Have been reading about this site in Chamonix, has anyone been?

Also any recommendations for homeward leg near Nancy area. Very excited & want to start booking as this is our first abroad camping trip as a family!

I've been there but about 20 years ago. Its a bit out of Chamonix town centre but you can catch a bus from the main road.

Chamonix is lovely. We took the train up the Mer de Glace and then climbed down the ladders onto the glacier. Apparantly there's a cable car now to take you to teh glacier but it used to be a series of scary metal ladders nailed to the rocks. It was fab. Then we walked back down most of the way, but the last bit you could go on a luge which was loads of fun.

Don't know the site you mentioned, but if you don't mind going a bit further away from Chamonix, I can recommend this this camp site on Annecy Lake: www.lesrivesdulac-annecy.com/en/32/Discover-Annecy-and-its-surroundings.aspx

We stayed there three times in total, twice with DS (now 4) and we all loved it. We might be going again this summer if they have any pitches available.

Hi, we have been a couple of times, in fact it's where ds was conceived! It's very clean and friendly, with a little hut for when the weather is bad. The pitches are well defined so to are not really on top of each other. Gorgeous views as well. I think it was about a 40 minute walk to chamonix but ou can also get the bus or train. We will definitely take ds back there one day
