Ditching the weight and the bad habits

Millionairerow · 28/07/2014 14:49

A thread for those who want to lose weight but who have got into bad habits along the way. I have 3 children and to have an "evening" have got into the bad habit of reaching for the wine bottle instead of the dumb bells. I used to do a lot of exercise but bow I don't have the energy. Will be using good old fitness paypal. Started yesterday but this morning weighed 13 st 4.5 lbs. aim is to calorie count for gradual weight loss to be kept off 4 ever, do more exercise and have more energy to keep up with my 3 young kids (all under 5). The aim will to have alcohol on no more than 2 evenings in the week (well that is my vice). Anyone like to come join?? Only those WKD at heart....

I'll join you I'm 12 days in and have lost 9lbs, I'm a lot bigger than you though by a lot and hoping to lose 9 stone in 3 stone blocks to make it easier!! I'm on mfp too and finding it easy for now I've completely changed my diet and doing a lot more exercise! I've been in every diet going and determined to do it this time.

Im in!!! I have just over half a stone to lose. I am trying to keep my calories under 1200. I am on my fitness pal. Find its the best thing for me. Really helps. I have got into bad habits...doritos and crabbies are my thing but too regularly and going to keep it as my treat once a week. Also am bad after work as i teach and then find release in eating after i have taught my class.
I find it hard cause i dont feel an apple satisfies me..i find i need some carb. Any ideas of what snacks i can have??

Welcome greengardenpixie. I've last 1.5 lbs in a few days... Prob water! Tho did sadly go to the pub but walked a mile to get there....but had my parents here and we don't get out as a couple often so had to be done. Large glass of rosé... But nothing tonight. I have upped my walking dogs. Snacks... Mmm I had tracker yesterday. Have you tried the nakd bars? Bit of an acquired taste but they're ok.

Well done million :)
Oooh no i havent I will look out for them in the supermarket. I am finding it hard snack wise.
I think you do still need to treat yourself otherwise it will never last!! I had my last baby 3 years ago. I had put on a bit of weight with her. I was about 12 stone or so. With my fitness pal i got down to 10 and a half stone and have since then been up and down but never back to 12 stone thank goodness. Im mindful of losing weight too quickly as i dont want saggy skin [ im 46!] and my neck is not the greatest due to my pregnancies and weight gain, weight loss.

At a similar starting weigh to you, Millionairerow, been losing weight for a while, but have become too complacent. Need to get re motivated! 24lbs gone so far, probably about the same to go again! Getting married next August so plenty of reason... or so you'd think.

Good look everyone!

Hello - can I join you?
I weighed 12st12lb on Monday morning. Slightly horrified by that! My first aim is 11st7 and then hopefully somewhere between 10 - 10st7 as a final resting point.
I have an 11 month dd who takes up a lot of attention, but not that much running-around-after just yet. I want to be fit and thin(ish) for her as well as for myself.
My downfalls are eating massive portions (of so-so food) and a love of wine. So the plan for stage one is to cut down portion sizes altogether, eat less rice/pasta/potato and more green veg. Oh, and to limit the amount of wine I drink. I know I need to up my exercise, but not sure how or what just yet.
Good Luck all!

Hi all, can I join? I started calorie counting this week after coming back from holiday. All my clothes seem to have shrunk in the wash (ahem) and I need to get back into them. I have 18lbs to lose and currently feeling like it's a massive hurdle. I have a small frame and don't carry extra weight well - the photos from holiday have shocked me into action.

Is anyone just starting on mfp?

Morning! I'm with you. I'm getting married in Dec and there's nothing more I want than to feel confident an happy on that day. I started on Monday and I was about 11st 8lbs.

I'm currently 11st 5lbs and @ 5'5 I'm definitely too heavy. Ideally I would like to be as close to 10st as possible.

I'm eating what I want but much much much smaller portions. I'm eating from one of my children's plates! Ended up having a bottle of red wine last night though, oops! Better luck for me today!

You are the same height as me. Yes around 10stone would do me nicely. Are you on my fitness pal?

I long for nice holiday snaps!

I'm on mfp as AddToBasket if anyone wants to add me. I'm not sure how the friend thing works.

How brutal is everyone being? And is everyone weighing themselves everyday?

Report
Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 09:05

No, generally i am not going to weigh myself daily as it can be disheartening. I have been there. Weight fluctuates during the week so best setting a time and day and doing it weekly. I used to do it on a Saturday morning and think i will do the same this time round. I did however weigh myself this morning just to give myself a boost depress me as i have just started and found i am nearly 11 stone. I think its fluid though.
Am i being brutal...I am being quite strict with myself really and trying to stick to the under 1200 calories. I did excercise at home..but mainly stretches so you can eat back what you have burned iykwim. It was only 30 calories for me on that day though..but still, everything counts. If i go over my 1200 by about 100 calories..its not the end of the world though and will give myself a treat at the weekend.

I am yes Green, but never use it! I'm still a weight watchers member so pop all I eat into that tracker every day. My official weigh in day is a Saturday. I try not to weigh myself every day but I can't help it...

Hi can I join you? I need to lose 3 stone. Had a baby 4 months ago but was already overweight when I became pregnant and have been eating really unhealthily since he arrived. I breastfed with first child so the weight didn't pile on so quickly. This time my diet is even worse and I'm not breastfeeding! I keep looking at my wedding photo and wondering why on earth I felt overweight even then - I was over 3 stone lighter and had a normal BMI!! So have decided to try mfp. Have tried ww and sw in the past with some success but I feel I need a change. I'm allowed 1600cals according to mfp. Started on Monday and so far not finding it too bad.

welcome onceipop :)
Dont be hard on yourself..you have not long given birth. As they say, it takes nine months to create a baby and it takes as long to get your weight back on track. I have no excuse...i had my dd 3 years ago. I lost about 2 stone after my pregnancy and since then havent done too bad..but i always use mfp when it creeps up. I have about 1/2 a stone - a stone to lose..so not impossible. So far, its not been too bad for me either.

I think I'm learning more about what I eat using mfp. I've got into such bad habits that I need to retrain myself about sensible eating. It's helpful having the info about carbs etc and I like the little reminders that pop up - especially the ones that say I made a good choice!! I'm within my cals today but did succumb to a magnum which has put my carbs and sugar over the recommended level! At least my cals are ok though! And I'm actually not hungry which I thought I would be.

Greengardenpixie · 31/07/2014 22:29

mfp is good for me because it has saved all my recipes from last time. I made some pasta and some tomato sauce and just went in and there it was in my recipes!!!
