Bullying at the skating

At public skate session at local High School today a 15yo girl was crying because her peers were saying snide things to her like they have done for years (I know history from her mum, obstensibly always over her Ginger hair).

I said the most supportive things I could but I hated being powerless was I? I don't know the tormentors, and I don't want them to turn on my kids at skating if I did have a go at them. It was awkward to think of what to do.

Girl went home immediately, I later said something to the staff who said they only run the sessions, they can't sort out the kids' social problems. The woman saying this said that she was suicidal herself for same reason (teased over ginger hair) until she started to stand up for herself. I could see she was very upset just talking about it, but her attitude that she wasn't there to prevent bullying disappointed me.

I would have been fine if the session staff said that they knew but it was very difficult to prevent. I felt very at them seeing the situation as the victim's problem.

The girl just left the school (where skate session was held) to attend another one 10 miles away, that's how "well" the school has managed to deal with it so far (sigh).

I thought about another skate session, too, but family hasn't much money to send her everywhere on the bus 8+ miles away, plus she does have some friends she'd like to see here. Besides, why should she have to go to that trouble when they're being the jerks?

Girl was saying that nobody dares says anything when her big brother or mum comes along, that might be her only solution (although I think that sucks, too).
