i know kids are cruel and often torment each other and say hurtful things about others but when is it classed as bullying ?
ds2 is a very sensitive child but also likes to be one of the lads and play football etc

he often says hes had a bad day and comes out of school looking down because this child and that child called him names or whatever

there are 2 kids in particular who regualrly get mentioned and we have had various incidents with them for the last 4 years

last night ds2 was in tears saying he hates school and no one likes him but he joined in a game of football as soon as we got there this morning!
i did go in and tell the teacher because the said 2 kids had been calling him Haz the spaz he said and obviously that needs sorting.

i dont know how else to help him, i keep telling him that theres always going to be kids saying silly things and to ignore them as much as he can but im thinking maybe im wrong here.

what do i do ?

i think the school should be taking more of a role in this and sitting everyone down for an open class discussion about bullying and name calling.

From bitter experience, I think you have to put your concerns in writing to the head. Otherwise these things just tend to be overlooked. Apparently 'harassment' is a term they take seriously so include that.

Bullying can be verbal as well as physical and schools are supposed to have an anti-bullying policy which they enforce.

There's some excellent advice on the other thread with the 'anyone not know where to start' title.

Best of luck & HTH

i've just got this book it seems really helpful it giving strategies to help children understand and react to different situations.

i don't normally go on about books but this one does seem quite hopeful!
