Feeding changes as DD grows

I have a couple of questions about feeding dd. She is nearly 8 weeks. At the moment when I express a feed to leave with DH I make sure I've got just over 4oz. Should I be increasing this, and how much should a 2 month old be taking?

Also what happens to her feeding patterns as she grows. Will she feed more often or for longer? And will I be able to express enough for a feed as my supply increases, or will I just have to express more regularly? Hmm, let me see, any more questions that I could fit in this post...? Oh yeah what's the answer to life the universe and everything?

from the begginning....

does she drink a full 4oz? if so then it wont hurt to make it up to 5 if you can.

its difficult to say how much any baby should be taking as they are all different, try not to get hung up on how much she drinks, just that she feeds often and seems satisfied.

as she gets older she will actually feed for shorter periods of time because she will become more efficient at draining the breast, she will obviously go through grow spurts and will feed more often at those times but otherwise, 2-3 hourly feeds is about average.

if you feed on demand you will always have enough milk, if you intend to express as well you may need to express more regularly to get the amount of milk you need.
after the first feed in the morning usually yields good results, and i always used to express before i went to bed, because i used to dream feed at 11pm, i knew then that she would probably go for about 4 hrs without waking.

hope this helps...?

Thanks, she does take a full 4oz. Sometimes if I express a bit more she doesn't finish it, but last night she had 4oz and DH said she could have had more, so am thinking I need to up the amount that I leave.
