ds is being fed with bottles. the problem is that he is really gulping his milk! i can hear the air going down into his tummy and then he finds it really hard to bring back up, this results in the next 20mins trying to burp him, then we resume the feed and he gulps again! we have tried infacol, which worked for the first two weeks, but no longer seems to help. we also use the dr browns bottles. what can i do???????

dinky, I see from the other thread you are expressing and giving ebm in bottles....you don't say how old your baby is or whether you are happy with this arrangement, but would an option be to get help with trying to bf 'direct' again?

Having said that, is the wind he is taking in bothering him? If all you are waiting for is a big burp that never comes, then it could be he really doesn't need to burp

Some cultures think we are mad to worry about wind!

no, couldnt keep up with the expressing lark & he never got the hang of latching HV said she thought his tongue was too long & my nipple too flat - so it never happened & expressing was such hard work and painful we've moved to formula (with 1 ebm in evening).
ds is now 9 weeks old. the gulping hasnt been a problem before, its just this last week it seems to have been getting worse. He really does seem to be in pain with it and cant/wont take any mroe of his feed till he's burped.
feeding is such a struggle - i dread it!

What formula are you using? My LO got loads of wind with SMA gold but improved a lot when we switched to Aptimil. Also have you thought about trying a different teat. I use Avent bottles and from a few days old she needed a number 2 teat and she went onto the number 3 teat a month ealier than she should have iyswim.

we're on aptamil too. tried cow&gate comfort but was badly constipated. we ere using avent, but moved to dr browns in an attempt to help him swallow less air. have tried every teat, if i use number 2 he just dribbles it all out as it comes so fast. number 1 seems best.
