I know its all been done before, so I was wondering if I could have a list of links/websites full of information on positioning, preparation before-hand and various hints and tips please.

Have a read of kellymom

And wait for me to set my site up

Seriously, you probably won't be able to wait that long - I'll post more later on this thread.

what are your thoughts on lying back with baby on top for the early days of feeding?

Have a look at the link on this thread about the breast crawl. I would definitely try this if I had another baby. There is another thread here by someone who tried it.

whatever works and is comfortable. like most first time breast feeders you'll probably spend all your time over analysing it.

i know i certainly did.

getting to grips with lying down feeding is a must however.

as is walking around feeding, answering the phone/door feeding, making tea, eating and anything else you may want to do in the day.

watch when eating tomato soup however. it really stains baby's head and babygro!

Midwife tried this with me, moments after a traumatic birth ending in ventouse delivery. DS1 just puked marvellous green stuff all over me cos he had swallowed all his own poo while he was still inside. Lovely!!!

oh and also, feeding in the bath!

it was the only way we could both get washed.

Nightshade - you forgot running round after toddler, picking toddlers fork up off the floor, bathing toddler and reading to toddler on knee - all while bf!! I am an expert!! (drew the line at housework while bf though )

My permanent feeder ds2 just spent everyday covered in toast crumbs post c section, dp just made a pile of toast each morning and a flask of tea and plonked it within reach then took ds1 to my mums for the first few weeks. one day the mw came, I just shouted that the door was open so I didn't have to stand up. Well when she picked him up it looked like when you empty the crumbs out of the toaster!!!

thank you so much i was worried baby might suffocate/choke/not be able to swallow properly etc if I tried this. One more thing, when i get engorged, and pretty flat, will it still work? Will I still get sore?

everyone is different, you will experience a certain amount of discomfort at different stages during breast feeding.

like your baby, it will change, some stages being easier than others.

why don't you start going to lll meetings, wish i had whilst pregnant.

they mormalise breastfeeding and take some of the 'technique' out of it, focussing more on the relationship between mum and baby.

i did the meetings with ds1 and ds2, still failed I'm not much cop at that sort of thing as am very shy in rl. fared better with dd, on my own but I'm hoping that people like you and hunker etc are going to help me succeed for real this time as I'm doing a huge amount of research this time, and my midwife has said she will personally help me out [she has been my m/w with three of the four, but was on holiday when both ds2 and dd were born

has anyone else bfed whilst sitting on the loo having a poo and reading a story to their toddle at the same time the joys of parenthood.

hope you get some fab advice, i did the bab crawl thing with ds2, and it was ok

oh and if you get engorged and your nipples are very flat and hard for the baby to latch onto you can express a tiny bit so the nipple is easier for baby to latch onto, i had to do this with ds1, my breast were unreal when my milk came in with him, i looked like a porn star as dp tactfully told me....

LOL I've done the breastfeeding whilst on the loo and reading ds a story too. I can also breastfeed and change a nappy at the same time.

I'm also worried about engorgement and soreness. Obvious I know but I get REALLY bad with both.
Does having pale skin really make a difference?
