My DD doesn't look at me while BF - never has is this odd?

My DD now 9 months old doesn't stare at me while feeding she sort of goes into a trance and stares at my boob or if not that interested plays with my bra strap or takes my glasses on and off. I've never had this stare lovingly into my eyes business. Is this strange? I've always stared at her and wished she stared back. Latest thing is she puts her taggie blanket over her eyes/face as she BF to sleep! Can I do anything to look at me with her lovely eyes?

I can't help you, but my DD is the same if that is any help to you. I mentioned it to a friend once, and her son is the same. Both our DC's give us plenty of eye contact at all other times.

DS might beam at me when he's finished, but otherwise he's the same as your DD, Tapster... in a trance, staring at my boob, eyes closed or fiddling with something

Neither DS nor DD looked at me while breastfeeding - they would look straight ahead and get on with the task in hand .

i reckon the angle makes it a bit difficult for eye contact doesn't it, or is that my extremely pert breasts?
not sure, will think about it when he wakes up any minute now.

....he does slap me repeatedly with his upper hand, that's about as loving as he gets!

cadelaide - I certainly haven't got "pert" breasts - anything but - but DS1 never looked at me while BF'ing, DS2 never did when bottlefeeding (preferred to stare across out into the room) and DS3 doesn't while BF'ing or Bottlefeeding.....

It's funny I was thinking this the other day about this "babies like to look at your face while feeding" too.

DS didnt either until he got a bit older & we started experimenting with different feeding positions etc....he now looks at me occasionally & we have a little play where I try to make him laugh by pulling a funny face ....doesn't walways work though as he generally still feeds lying down & therefore is staring at my boob anyway.

I'm so glad its not just me - was expecting adoring looks while BF! She will start laughing and smiling when she has had enough. Pert boobs what are they???

My DD is 9 weeks old and doesn't do eye contact either. I keep waiting for tha magic moment I've read about in all the books, but it hasn't happened yet . Mostly she stares at the patterned wallpaper behind me or the black and white photo print on the wall.

I do get lots of other smiles and eye contact at other times though.

DD is 9 months too and there is no magic moment when she looks at me, just slapping, poking and pinching with the free hand.

Mixed blessing - my 9 month old stares at me, yanks her head right back, and grins. At no point does she relax her vice-like grip. Ow!

Isn't it kind of impossible for a baby to look up and gaze up at you while breastfeeding? Unless you have large floppy norks with nips that hang facing southwards?
