Reflux or bad digestion?

My four month old still continues to be sick straight after and between feeds. She started off on aptamil and was then told she had lactose intolerance so switched to SMA LF. The doc also thinks she has reflux so has gaviscon in milk but doesn't seem to do a great deal. The HV has just suggested i switch to omneo comfort as this might help the sickness but I'm not sure if she is being sick because of reflux or bad digestion. Tried the C&G comfort but the watery sickness is almost as bad as the sickness in the first place. She is windy even though you think you have got all her wind up and her poos (when not on omneo are always green). Has anybody any ideas. I'm not sure whether to stick with my lactose free as if she is def lactose intolerant the omneo (comfort) could cause other problems or go for it and switch to omneo and try it for a while.

Have you been told that she is definitely lactose intolerant? If so, then I would stick to the lactose free milk to be on the safe side - would suggest another visit to the doctor to ask their advice..

My dd suffered with very bad reflux - although she is 6 months old now and is has totally passed so it won't be forever!! It will get easier when you start weaning as well. Try keeping your little one upright for at least 30 minutes after each feed as this helps prevent the milk coming back up by gravity!! It is quite normal for babies to possett back some of their feed as the sphincter muscle at the top of the stomach is quite weak meaning that milk is easily regurgitated. However if your dd is bringing up large quantites of milk, and appears to be in distress doing so, then this is more likely to be reflux. Keeping her as upright as possible both during and after feeding will help, and a foam cot wedge will keep her more upright in the cot (my hv suggested using a copy of yellow pages underneath the head end of the cot!).

As for the wind, have you tried infacol drops before each feed? They are supposed to help babies bring up trapped wind more easily. Sometimes a very windy baby can bring up yet more milk with the trapped wind making the vomiting seem even worse so if you can eliminate the wind that will help?

The doctor thinks that she is intolerant but i think that some of the symptoms she had at the time were due to other things and the HV seems to think that she should be growing out of that now.

As for reflux - she doesn't bring up large quantities but sickness starts straight after the feed and continues till the next one. Its like she is struggling to digest what we've given her. She is obviously in some sort of discomfort with it as seems unsettled.

Tried infacol and gripe water both with limited success. I asked the HV should I start to wean early to try and help her, she was dead against it.
