Is it possible to do just one BF per day, first thing in the morning, without your milk drying up? DD is just over 7mths old. I work 3 days/week: Mon-Weds and on these days she has a BF first thing in the morning & I pump about 1.30pm (only get ~4oz, used to get 5-6oz) which she has in addition to formula at 6.30pm. She has formula at 2pm at nursery. The rest of the week it's BF first thing, BF about 2pm. On any day there is also sometimes a BF at about 10pm but she seems to be dropping this one lately. She also has three meals of solids a day. I'm surprisingly upset that I seem to be drying up lately, and having DH/family say 'well, it's time to stop' is not helping! Haven't they read mnet?!

smittals I am so not an expert, (failed breastfeeder alert) but I know that a good friend did just one BF a day from about this age, when she went back to work. She carried on with it until her babies were one year old and that was when SHE wanted to stop, so I guess she could have carried on longer in terms of physically still producing milk.

So I think it sounds possible certainly.

Experts will be along soon I'm sure.

Thanks for that, I feel quite depressed about it! Just wanted to know in advance rather than have a dwindling supply and to just peter out. I'd rather make the decision to stop than to have it made for me. I had NO idea how emotional the whole BFing thing would be, one of the surprises of having a baby. Think the root of it is not wanting DD to grow up and stop needing me in such a direct way. Weird!
