Infant feeding

I'm being a pillock; please pat me on the head (centiles, grr...)

ds2 (5m) is healthy and happy, blah blah. But, for want of something better to do with my time (), I keep taking him to be weighed every month or 6w (I never bothered with ds1 ).

He was born on the 50th centile and zoomed up to the 91st by 8w. But since then he's been gradually falling off (even on the specific bf centile charts) and this time has actually lost weight since he was last weighed. And compared to a friend's (also bfed) boy of same yesterday age he looked really small.

The HV said just to start solids (he's about 3w off the 26w mark...ish...I lose track ) but I was thinking of doing a more BLW approach so wasn't looking to solids for calories.

He feeds only 4 or 5 times in 24hrs (but ds1 was the same and he's fine on 98th centile!!). I've started expressing in the last week to try and build up a store of EBM for going back to work, but don't seem to get a huge amount off. Should I stop expressing and concentrate on feeding? Should I try and squeeze another feed into the day even though he's not telling me he's hungry? Should I just stop being a prat and realise he's a happy wee boy who's just not as big as his brother and stop taking him to be weighed?!!

Well, you know the answer really. He's perfectly ok and solids aren't really that likely to make much difference are they?

And supply/demand means that your expressing shouldn't affect the amount of milk he gets, it not being a finite quantity that you're producing. I would offer another feed and see if he's interested.

The answer to your question, 2Happy, is 'yes'

Thank you, bookthief . I don't quite know how I manage to get my knickers in a twist about this, I'm not normally as anxious as I was with PFB, but for some reason his weight seems to be a big issue for me (I think possibly because ds1 was and is so big!)

DD was ebf and dropped down at about the same age, and is now higher than ever at 10m. We do some mashed food but mostly finger food and she seems to be getting plenty.

HV told me to wean early too and I ignored them (how they can do it when all they tell you at the beginning is to bf for 6m?!?)

He will tell you what he needs, if your worried offer him more milk in the day.
