SMA wysoy advice needed re pooing please sorry tmi

my son has been prescribed sma wysoy by the doctor due to milk intolerance. it seems to be suiting him, but his poo has gone hard and green. he is straining to go and seems in pain.any advice please

try goat milk formula, or SMA LF which is Lactose Free. either way don't stick with just soya as it is not enough. too many doctors have told me not to keep my dd on a just soya diet

Soya formula shouldn't be prescribed/recommended unless all other options have been tried first.

You'll find this and this interesting.

It's illegal to sell goats formula in the UK, so that isn't an option for you.

Ideally you should be prescribed a hydrolysed formula such as Nutramigen or Pepti. I would suggest that you revisit your doctor and ask for one of these.

Good advice here, mummysab - there are many health concerns about soya formula beyond the effect on the bowel. You can google these and then, as the others say, discuss with your doc.

the doctor was rubbish the helth visitor WAS brill but cant reallyt do much cus my own hv isnt in the office.anyway i managed to persuade my gp to prescribe pepti.is that right/?thanks x

Yes that's great that he's given you Pepti. Most give Nutramigen first, as it seems to be cheaper for them, but it tastes and smells disgusting, so a lot of babies refuse it and then get offered Pepti. Saves you some hassle if he's gone straight for that .
