Stopping the bedtime bf - any advice welcome

Hi,
I am planning to stop the bedtime bf once tom is 1 (only 3 weeks, eek!) and he can have some (warm) cows milk instead, and would appreciate any advice.

At the mo, he has bath, pyjamas, storytime, then i feed him and he falls asleep, then i put him in his cot.
i know, i know, he falls asleep on me and this is v bad

he also refused a bottle months ago so the milk will have to be from a cup.

he does go down for naps during the day awake and has a little cry then falls asleep. we also do some cc if he cries for more than 5 mins, so hope this carries over to bedtime. i just don't want him to cry every sleep time, it seems so sad! or am i the sad one?!

looking forward to tips, kt

ps FAQs:
why? so i can wean him off totally as i want a break before trying for number 2
other feeds? first thing in the morning which i am hoping to drop a few weeks after bedtime is sorted

I've been racking my brains trying to remember how we did it....I think we exchanged his afternoon bf for cup of milk first. A few months later we then started giving him a cup of milk after his evening meal which made him too full for a bf, even though he tried to begin with.

I know two people who have done this at about the same age and they both said they got their dh to put the LO to bed with the cup of warm milk and they eccepted it and went to sleep with no probs at all...

presumably after a couple of nights either parent could put LO to bed? not sure...

thanks to both of you.
will certainly get dh to help with the first few nights.
was also thinking i shd sit him up after milk and do stories then so he goes to bed awake but after bf for a week then change it to a cup of cows milk?
any other thoughts?
thanks, kt

thanks for the bump eca.

well night 1 has gone swimmingly well!
dh offered him some warm cows milk but he didn't really want any, then dh read him to sleep!
couldn't believe it when he came back downstairs with no wailing and hysterics!
puts me in my place!!!
hopefully ds will be as good for dh for next 2 nights then totally used to it by monday when i have to do it.

if we get this settled then i can drop the morning feed and be free - oh except for the fact that i'm now pg again!
