dd is 10.5 months

i am fazing out breastfeeding but plan to continuye feeding morning and evening for a another month

wanting to try fazing in cows milk instead of formula (which she is increasingly rejecting and i dont blame her!)

A year seems an arbitary amount of time!

any ideas for iron rich meals yor lo loves?

tofu anyone?

any lentil weavers out there?

Don't know how helpful this will be.

My sister switched from formula to cow's milk at 10 months, but my nephew is 33 inches and 24 pounds (Very tall family) and the doctor didn't think it would affect his growth at all.

I can't remember off the top of my head but I'm sure quinoa and millet were mentioned as being good iron/vitamin rich foods for babies

I would leave it until she is one year old, is not so long to wait and her gut will be more mature to digest it. It's just two months more.

not introducing cow's milk in year one is not just an iron thing - it has to do with risk of allergies, immature gut, etc. babies' guts are not good at digesting cow's milk, esp. if all they have ever had is bm

read kellymom.com, it has a very informative section on the introduction of cow's milk

hmm... thanks for messages

she already has cows milk in her food and has had some formula two/three days a week since 7 months

however she is now rejecting this!

was wanting to try coswmilk in a cup to see if she is into it

some stuff i have read on internet the experts say 9-12 months the advisors say 12 i think cos it easy to remember and comes across as a clear message

as we know all babies develop differently

i would try and ensure she got iron/vitamins from her food

still not sure!

FWIW I introduced it at 15 m and DS got a rash all around his body, went back to formula for another 6 months and then tried it again and he was fine, or so we thought as a couple of years later we found that what kept him constipated, bloated and sedated to the point that his movements were the ones of a child one year younger was... milk.

BUT... the fact this has happened to DS doesn't mean it will happen to your DD, just something to consider

Though there has been a lot of publicity recently about not giving babies cow's milk until at least 9 months, this does not really apply to breastfeeding babies. The breastfeeding baby can take some of his milk as cow's milk after about 6 months of age, especially if he is starting to take substantial amounts of a wide variety of solids as well. Goat's milk is an alternative. Many breastfeeding babies will not drink formula because they do not like the taste. Actually, the breastfeeding baby can get all the milk he needs from the breast without his requiring other sorts of milk, even if he is nursing only a few times a day.
