Infant feeding

9 month old wants bf every 2 hours at night, but won't feed during the day

DS is 9 months old, does well with solid food (BLW) but hardly ever asks for bf during the day anymore. I try to offer it and he is too interested in other things to bother with feeding. The problem is that he is then waking up every 2 hours during the night to feed, and I am totally knackered! Any suggestions as to how I can give him more milk in the day so he doesn't wake up so much at night? Thanks. I've also posted this thread on the sleep board to see if anyone there has any ideas.

You've put your finger on it when you say he's too interested in other things during the days - he obviously only realises he's hungry for milk at night when there are no distractions!
Have you tried offering him a feed when he's just going down for or waking up from a nap so he's all sleepy, or even just taking him into a quiet room and putting on some calm music before offering, in the hopes that he'll find milk the most exciting thing available?
A 'dreamfeed' at 10ish before you go to bed when he's mostly alseep might give you a couple of hours grace before he wakes you up...

Hi MrsB, before naps is really the only time I can get him to feed during the day at all. I haven't tried a dreamfeed yet, maybe we'll try that tonight!

Ds was just the same - he would only drink 1oz (honestly!) of formula all day at nursery, then wake up 4 times at night to be bf.

Harsh reality for me - time to stop bf because I was just so knackered trying to work and having such bad sleep.

First night he screamed for an hour. Second night he cried for 20 mins, 3rd night he just had a cuddle. MAGIC. Blimmin hard not to give in and feed him though! Steely resolve needed....
