How old was your dc when you dropped the dream feed..I have a 7 month old ds and am considering dropping the dream feed, but unsure as he occasionally wakes up at 10.30pm crying for a feed. Other days he's fast asleep and i wake him to feed him...

I used to dream feed ds until he was @ 5 months old. We always used to have to wake him and he would only take @ 2oz's. He also still needed a 5.30am feed. (He was bf for 3 months then ff after that - his choice not mine!).

Decided to drop it to see what would happen and fully expected him to wake @ 1-3am but he slept through until 5.30am for the next few nights and very soon was sleeping 'til 7am or there abouts.

I would say if he wakes feed him but if he doesn't - let him sleep. I used to get dh to wake him as couldn't bring myself to do it - although used to wake him from day sleeps when he was tiny to ensure 3 hourly feeds.

We stopped at about five months too. We just took the plunge one night and didn't wake DS and bingo, he slept through. Have never looked back. The other thing you could do is gradually reduce the amount you give by a couple of oz's/a few mins of breast ever few nights until you're down to hardly anything and then stop.

8 months as found that I was waking her more than her waking up for it. She had increased her solids at tea/ dinner time and it all sort of ended!!!!

Am watching this thread with interest as my DS is 4 months, is on 4 bottles of 7oz and two meals and snack each day (early weaning advised by GP - feel the need to justify). Am contemplating adding more milk with food or just as Bristols and Foxy did dropping the dream feed which is currently at 10.30pm. He sleeps really well ATM from 7.30pm through to 5.45-6.30am.

I've always gone by the rule of never waking a sleeping baby!

Oooh, good luck Ash. Let us know how you get on. The first night we did it, DS did wake up himself. We fed him but the following night he didn't wake and that was it!

We stopped a few weeks after DD started solids (so about 7 months). From when she was 6 months I moved it 15 mins earlier every 3 nights. I also gave DD a slower teat on her bottle. By the time I stopped, I was feeding her at about 9 and she was only taking an ounce or 2 so didn't miss it when we stopped and continued to go through to 7-ish. Good luck!
