Infant feeding

So when are you going to stop breastfeeding then?

What do you say when asked this question? I don't get all political and go into the many many many benefits to me and DD (or the fact that I just WANT to carry on) - I just calmly say 'oh till she's at least 30'! people giggle nervously not really knowing how serious I am. TBH, I can't say, DD is just one and I would like to carry on until she is at least two but maybe I'll change my mind next week - why does the whole world think I know the answer anymore than they do? Would love to hear what other MNetters say when faced with this question.

"I don't really know, we are happy as we are"

with a big smug smile

I usually just say 'when either he or I wants to stop'. Which, handily, is the truth.

'In about 10 minutes'

What a rude question! When are they going to stop breathing?

You know, ds has just turned 2, and I can only remember being asked once, when he was around 6mo. I think I said I didn't know... If I was asked now I would say when ds is ready to stop.

Usually say 'when she doesn't want to do it anymore. After all it's not harming anyone is it?'

The only people who have discouraged me BF my DS are my own parents. Thankfully I have resolved the situation by not seeing them very often

I stopped last week.

My answer was always ""when they get teeth", I managed for nearly 8 months but got chomped on far too much the last few weeks for my liking, and the cute smile she did after biting me was not enough to keep me going!

I usually say "I've stopped already...but DS2 hasn't" with a wry smile.

If they persist, I punch them.

Hehehehe Hunker, I like your style

Actually, from now on I'm going to use Gingerbear's.

Chilledmama - like you, the only person who really hates me bf-ing is my dear dad, who is great in almost every single respect except this one. He was fine with it when my sons were babies, but now that ds2 is 2 and still chugging away, you can see the irritation and incomprehension building up.

Still feeding DD (10 months) but will be weaning her off it soon as she thinks I'm some kind of Fisher Price activity centre and keeps trying to "ping" nipples. DS did the same and that's when I stopped bf-ing him.

I say "when one of the two of us wants to stop". I think I must have a look in my eye though, because I don't get asked very often
