Infant feeding

Is my milk drying up or have I damaged my breasts?

I'm still breastfeeding my 2 year old. He has two good feeds a day, but there seems like there is nothing there for him. When I used to express, I could see lots of milk coming out of many openings on my nipples. Now it only seems like milk comes out from a couple of openings in one part of my nipple.

Is this just normal when milk is drying up or could it be a sign that I have damaged my breasts? I accumlated a bit of scaring on my nipples when my baby bit me once and it got infected. I also wear very tight bras and I read recently that they can damage breast tissue.

This all probably sounds silly, but I'm worried becasue I am in early pregnancy and would be devestated if I couldn't effectively breastfeed my next one. I had a hellish time managing to breastfeed my first and I have developed a bit of a phobia perhaps about having to go through the same thing again.

I would imagine it is just normal when your supply has dropped a bit, but I am certainly no expert so will wait to see what the bf counsellors on here have to say

I just wanted to give you a response, and hopefully some reassurance, until someone else can give you a better answer

Normal to have less milk in early pregnancy, I believe. Also expressign is a really unreliable way to see what you have.
I am absolutely sure there is nothing wrong with you.

Your milk supply often drops or changes in early pregnancy, so it's quite likely that that's all it is. If there was really nothing there then your DS would be letting you know.

Oh gosh I had missed the bit about you being pregnant! Yes it is really normal for your supply to diminish, or almost to dry up

Congratulations!

That's reassuring! Like I mentioned, I would be so, so upset of I couldn't breastfeed this next one for some reason. It just made me feel a bit worried to see milk only coming out of one or two of the opening in my nipple where it used to flow out of the entire area.

i stopped bf wed night and feel really sad about it. I am 16 wks pg and dd nearly 19 months. My milk got less once i got in to the second trimester and it got too painful. Once i dropped mornign feed a week ago there was hardly anythign left and she stopped herself lsat night as she did not ask for it which is how i wnated it to stop. Am really looking forward to bf this second one once my body has had a bit of a break.

Congrats on your pg and for bf for so long
