Anyone had threadworm or had to medicate for threadworm while bfing a young baby? GP has only prescribed medication for the other members of my family, but not for me and ds2.

Apparently can't take it under 3 months or while BF. Providing you follow very strict hygenie to prevent reinfestation the worms will die of in a matter of a few weeks so there isn't really any need for medication. (Not that I'm suggesting you had poor hygenie you understand it seems to be very common. We've had it here. Apparently they are often passed from person to person via the fingernails. NHS direct website is a good place to look.

IMO, it's pretty hard for a tiny baby to catch threadworm, and hard for them to pass it on to anyone else, so hygiene should do it for your DS2. (Does he have threadworm? You would see them in his nappy.)

I've bought half a dozen new nailbrushes and we're all scrubbing like mad! And I'm scrutinising ds2's nappies like a first-time mum. Nothing in there except 'beautiful' poo, thank goodness. My aunt (a nurse) told me to put a blob of vaseline on his anus at every nappy change so that, should he get infected, the worms won't be able to get their eggs to tstick and won't be able to crawl back inside either. Yuck, vile.

But if the baby can't take it under 3m, what about if the baby is older, can the bfing mum then take the medication?

Urgh, this is more disgusting than headlice.

Actually, NQC, I would have thought it to be all too easy for the baby to catch it from his older siblings' grubby fingers. I don't want to tell them not to play with him or touch him, but of course he puts everything in his mouth.
