Infant feeding

Very silly mistake...

My DS aged 13 months was b/f for first two months and then mixed fed (b/f with goat's milk formula) for two more and then continued on just the goat's milk formula. At some point, not sure when, perhaps around his 7 month I started ordering what i thought was Organic Goat Milk follow-on formula..however, DH on opening one of our deliveries this evening asked me why i'd been ordering Organic Cow's milk It was then that i realised that I'd been ordering the wrong tin and feel awful. DS is fine, the transition from goat's to cow's seems to have been a harmless one. DH is intolerant to lots of different things so it was he who initially wanted DS to have only goat's milk. Anyway, what's done is done but as i'm trying to get him on whole milk now was wondering if it would be worth trying him on whole goat's milk or just keep to cow's milk...Do you think it would be problematic? Pesky pregnancy brain...i'm sure that's how the mix up started!!!

I think you'd know by now if ds was going to be intolerant to cow's milk. I don't think it matters much which you wean him onto. Once he is older and goes to pre-school he will be offered cow's milk to drink so you may want to consider whether you are happy to keep providing alternatives for him if he doesn't need them - two children at dd2's pre-school bring in dairy-free milk each day.

Presumably it's cows' milk formula you've been giving him? AFAIK, many of the usual culprits for causing allergies are taken out of the formula so is not as bad as you might think. I had a very bad milk allergy as a child and I feed my DD cows' milk formula, but I do not feed her any dairy in the food I cook for her, the theory being that the more processed the milk, the less likely it is to cause problems. Don't know if this will work, but it is where we are!

my ds swopped from cows milk to goats milk without any problems (didn't even seem to notice) at 2. He has problems with cows milk.

You can use ordinary milk now rather than formula (over 12 months).

If he could take cows milk I would swop him back because
a)goats milk is expensive
b)our local shop doesn't sell it so its a pain if we run out accidentally.

OTOH goats milk is much easier to digest than cows milk and if the cost etc doesn't bother you then I would keep on the goats milk mainly but not worry if he had a bit of cows milk when out or if you ran out or similar.

well he might still have an allergy - i had that one identified as the one she would react least to by a kinesiologist. it had an immediate and amazing effect on her eczema. it cleared up overnight.
