Infant feeding

17 month old giving up breast

I'm feeling a bit sad because my 17 month old dd doesn't seem to want her morning breast feed anymore. A couple of weeks ago she was still really into it actually bringing me the v-shaped cushion and patting it to indicate she wanted me to feed her.The last few mornings she just hasn't wanted to know.

Should I just accept that she is self-weaning herself or should I offer her the breast at another time as I still feel it is doing her good? I am leaning towards the former as thinking about ttc in the next 6 months and need to get cycle back on track.

All a bit trivial I know but I was wondering whether anyone had had similar happen to them. I still feel like it is the end of an era though!

You've done well bfing this long, and it's quite fortunate that your dd is self weaning, I know it feels like the end of an era, but it's obviously what she wants. And means that you can start TTC.

My dd did this at about 14 months with her morning feed. It did feel sad, but TBH I think that was easier than now having to stop my ds' (17 months) morning feed (need to take medication) and the cries for 'Mummeeeeeeee!" are heartrending! Am dreading stopping the bedtime feed. It sounds as if your dd feels that it's time to stop, and it should help with ttc - so that hopefully you get to start all over again! Good luck,
HOG
