we've made BF till 7 months (thurs) am going to feed until then, but would then like to stop - I feel the time is right as Joey has two little teeth he likes me to feel! lol. however I'm also thinking is it the right thing? should I feed him for longer? (he only has morning/night boobs now) will I regreat stopping early that sort of a thing. DH/MIL have ben on at me to stop now for some time and partly i'm thinking no why should I and digging my heels in but also I want my body back - if that makes sence?

as for the pooping - for some weeks now he's been mixed fed using farleys formula - seems to be fab esp during the day he's doing lots of wet/poopey nappies. it's just after his bottle around 2/3 am he wakes up screaming about 2 hours after going back down - and it's a real heart felt scream, this goes on for around half hour when he poops and then bottom change and he'll go back to sleep for around 2 hours ish or so - the poop isn't particually hard, however it does appear to be the first poop of the day - if he doesn't need to poop etc he'll sleep quite happily until around 6.30 after the bottle with no trouble. i'm currently weaning him, and try to ensure each dinner has either fruit or veggies in it. I'm not sure if he's consitipated or not - he seems to go from one extream to the other throughout the day. it's just heart breaking to heart him in pain.

also, he's developed a dry cough over the past 10 days or so (started off first thing only and is gradually getting worse) I did think it was nothing but we have asthma in the fmaily (more than half of them have it) and i'm concerned over that - was going to see the H/V tomorrow but I wanted to make sure I had some info so wasn't fobbed off so to speak.

Hi . I am new . Just joined yesterday. What do the abbreviations mean? I have a seven month old son I have weaned down to one breakfast breast feed and sometimes a quick minute later in the evening if he needs soothed. He isn't constipated but my daughter was when I weaned her and the advice I got was to give her more water. (SOn has a drink of water every day) and I think that's the difference. Daughter wouldn't drink water so then the advice was to water down her formula and it worked.Hope this helps. p.s. my son has two teeth and nips me, too! I am sore right now! Little blighter!

he has water/juice (a teaspoon of the suger free stuff to 9oz of water) and i'd say he has a good 3/4oz of that per day. apart form that he has 3 bottles (incl one at night) and 2 boobs as well as his solids. I'm giving him foods with fibre in them.

there's an acromes list at the top for all the little abbriviations, i've used

DH - Dear HUsband
MIL - Mother in law
H/V - Health Vistitor
BF - Breast Feeding

Hiya and welcome to Mumsnet

yeah that does sound like plenty of fluid and b/m is easy to digest. poor you. It's no fun having a mystery problem. My daughter once pooed blood which gave me quite a fright but as I say watering down her feeds seemed to sort it.

My dd also screams for a while b4 pooping. Since going on the bottle now has 1 massive atomic nappy a day (DH description!) Is usually 10am but at one stage was evening and was IMPOSSIBLE to settle until pooped!!! Aren't they funny! U have my sympthies that it's in the night.

Btw have a friend who swears by HIPP oragnic baby juice to make her son poop! Dunno. Is hard to say what's ok cos you don't want to give loads of sugar but she does reckon it helps.

lol ali - i've been steering away fromo those shop baby juices - althou I guess suger frees no much better - then again it's more or less what with a tinge of colour! lol.

i've found banana and peach goes in one end and otut the other but he still has the same trouble - he's poooping about 2/3 times by day and obviously none by night apart form this one. he's not gone yet today and is happy as larry! lol.

guess it's just him?

When you say you'e giving him foods with fibre in, what are they and how much? Too much fibre isn't good for babies.

I'd keep on with the breastfeeds if he's having problems with pooing - it makes stools softer, even with just two feeds a day.

If he's having trouble after his 2am feed, can you try making that a breastfeed and see if it makes a difference?

Banana can be constipating too.

I didn't realise that hunker - he has a lot of green vegs and banana yoghurt type things, i've ben more focused on the fruit/veg than sweet etc - so possibly a bad combination of the food?

will I have milk there at 2am - I stopped the night feed properly some time ago - about 4 weeks or so, - could I delay the evening before boob betime do u think? (althou I don't really want to stop this one)

b/f a seven month old at 2 a.m. isn't that going backwards...don't you want a full night's sleep?

Report
hunkermunker · 18/09/2006 10:47

BBGM, why is it going backwards when he's having a bottle of milk at that time anyway?

DS2 is 8mo tomorrow and still feeds in the night - I get more sleep feeding him than not and one day he'll sleep through...

I agree HMunker, My dd is 13 months and usually has a bf in the night. I'd be awake alot more if I refused too.

bigbabygapmum · 18/09/2006 10:56

sorry I didn't read that he was feeding at that time anyway.

lol - yep he;s feeding still - well I had one (yes can u believe it) one night where he woke at midnight and had his dummy shoved back in as i'd only fed him 2 hours prior then he went to 6.30 when DH's alarm woke him up - imagion my surprise and leaping out of bed! lol.

apart from that he does want some milk - typically on that feed he'll take 7oz. i'd love him to sleep thru - will see how we get on on that front when he's about a year if he's not doing it and then reassess.

(I admit I do like the formula at 2am as DH can also do it for me - when he actually remembers to stay awake - but that's another thread! lol)

we've had 2 good nights on the trot (short of jinxing myslef here as he normally does 3 good 3 horrid) is it possible he can't have weetabix for his breakfgast? and instead will need to give him the heniz baby cereals/ready brek?

could a baby of this age have a wheat intollerance?
