DS is only 2 weeks old and having had a v. long feed then vomited the whole lot back up. There was loads of it! Now he's showing signs of being hungry again and is crying. I'm pretty sure there's nothing left - what do I do now!?

Hi Minko

Your breasts actually produce milk fastest when you're feeding, so even if they feel empty your baby will still get some. If he seems to be getting frustrated after a while then try switching sides.

feed him

also take a tablespoon of milk and pour it out on a cloth to see how much space it covers .. it is amazingly deceptive

Feed him again. Probably only wind and it always looks more coming out than going in ! You will make more as he feeds .

Poor you (and your DS) It's horrid when that happens - you feel dreadful.

It's unlikely that he'll have brought the whole lot up (just think how far a cup full of water goes if you spill it), but as Waswondering says, try latching him on and start again, you will have milk left, but he might have to work a bit harder to get it. My DS used to do this when he was straining for a poo (sorry tmi!) and he'd feed quite happily once he'd 'been' and we'd sorted him out.

This kind of thing feels soooo stressful at the time, but a few months later you look back on it and think how ridiculous it was to worry. They quickly get much more competent at feeding and digesting as they get bigger, you just have to keep believing that he really will grow! DS2 once did a projectile vomit all over the bookshelves. I took him up in distress to change his nappy before trying to start the whole feeding thing again and he did a projectile poo all over the wardrobe (and me). I was in tears, but with hindsight it's quite funny . (He's nearly 2 now and had a whole pizza for lunch today and didn't throw up at all ).

Hiya, what you discribe is what I had with all 3 off mine, it's a kind of reflux...but if your lil one is like mine were then he will be happy enough and won't be in pain and will gain weight very well (they are often called Happy chuckers when they have this kind of reflux)....just feed on demand!
If you do have a strong let down then maybe another breastfeeding position would work better, i.e. bf with Baby laying on top oof you whilest you lay down...I can't explain it any better and sadly have no link with a picture but the Kellymom website might have some more info for you
