DD was born at 35 weeks, and has now reached her due date. She is EBF but with nipple shield as she was unable to latch without it. She is feeding well and gaining weight brilliantly. I have been advised, and want to, wean her off the nipple shield. As far as I am concerned I think it will make life easier. Health visitor is adamant I have to get rid or it is going to cause problems. However, not been given any real advice of how to do it. I have tried getting her to latch without it, but she seems to have no idea what to do without it there. She seems to be looking for something more to latch on to.
Anyone been through this? How did you wean off it? Or anyone carried on using a nipple shield throughout breastfeeding and not had a problem?

I bf my twins with nipple shields until 4/5 months. It had no effect on my supply at all. I tried to stop earlier but they just didn't get the hang of it and then one day they did! Mine were born at 34 weeks so also needed help with latching. I'm still bf them at 10 months! Just try and latch her on without them every few weeks, one day she will just get it! Good luck and congratulations!

Thanks for replying. That is reassuring :-)
Hoping one day she'll get it, it just seems she is looking for more to latch on to than just my boob! I will keep trying and hope she gets it.
