Hello,

DS 6wo is breast fed howevere we neede him to take formula and a bottle as I will be going back to work at 6 months so we have started him on 1 small bottle a day of formula that DH is giving to m. At the moment we've been giving this about 5 ish. My question is, do we have to do this everyday, or can we just do say every other day, or even for 5 days a week and then not at the weekend, or will this be messing with my milk production? Also, is there a time of day that is best for the bottle to be given as a replacement feed?

I am not able to express milk which is the reason for formula, so expressing at each of these feeds is not an option.

Thanks in advance.

Personally I would say give one bottle every day, that way he will be used to it and your supply will be used to it too. What time is his last feed? does he wake up at night for feeds?

At that age I would give it at 11pm or just before you go to bed or his final feed of the day. Anecdotally babies that have their last feed as formula tend to sleep better.

We give our DS one bottle if formula per day, at 10/11pm and it's not caused any problems at all.

Ds was mixed fed from 6wo with ebn and the ff mix from 4mo
The ff made no difference to sleep Hmm

Mine has a bottle at 7 pm. I express at that time also. I can only get 30ml, sometimes less!

I save the milk either for a full feed or top up.
