Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting and I am also a first time Mum. My daughter is 9 weeks old and I have been breastfeeding since day 1. We had a tricky start with many latching problems, and DD was cup fed a few feeds in the first 2 days before we were sent home from hospital. A midwife later noticed that DD has a slight TT, but said it shouldn't be a problem as she was having wet nappies, even though she was struggling to latch and feeding for long periods. DD was also very windy despite being burped and sat upright for ages after each feed. When I mentioned this at her 6 week check, and the fact she clicks when feeding, and still pops on and off, I was told that they aren't interested as she is gaining weight and wetting nappies.

I am sure this is due to me feeding almost constantly and and now DD is experiencing other problems such as projectile vomiting twice a day, fussing and arching her back when laid down to feed, and struggling to use a bottle when I decided to try expressing. Having tried infacol, gripe water etc, but none seem to be working now. The fussing, wind and vomiting I thought might be reflux or taking too much air in due to the clicking, but the GP said since she is gaining weight and wetting nappies it's just colic, and I'm an anxious new mum. He said due to expense they can't prescribe anything other than infacol, so to go and buy some colief or infant gaviscon and she will grow out of it by 12 weeks.

I'm not sure what to do next for the best. What do any of you think???

Do you have a breastfeeding cafe you could go to? I think it would be worth getting the latch checked by someone that knows what they are doing.

DS had a tongue tie which was ignored due to his weight gain but feeding was a nightmare until it was cut.

How often are you feeding him?

I was also told that my son had a slight tongue tie that shouldn't be a problem. He was gaining well, so no issues there. But we got it checked privately and had it cut and it's made a massive difference to feeding - much less painful for me and more efficient for him.

I'd get it looked at by a lactation consultant. Clicking and falling off the latch are typical side effects of tongue tie, and the wind issues will be exacerbated by poor latching.

For some reason, GPs tend to be reluctant to get tt fixed. Bizarre, because it's such a simple procedure (my son didn't even cry - in fact he was half asleep when it was done and barely noticed) and it can make a huge difference to feeding.
