Hi, I'm looking for reassurance please!!! My DS is 5w 3d old, he is a big boy (9lb 8oz when born, 11lb 8oz at last weighing) and up until a couple of days ago was a dream feeding and sleeping but it feels like that's all changing now!!

He is now feeding constantly, and I do mean constantly, from about 7pm to about 10pm. Nothing else will settle him... I remember cluster feeding from my DD but it was not in this league. He also does it a bit in the morning.

He is also much harder to settle in general, more awake etc which I know is to be expected. The thing is I'm starting to lose confidence as it is so constant and as I have my DD and so much else to do I can't keep this up for weeks on end... So is this going to get any easier or am I doomed to be stuck on couch forever?? And possibly not be able to continue due to being unable to do this ALL the time!!

It will get better... I used a timer app with DS to keep track of boob switching and I had a good few days when I was up to 11 hours feeding before about 6pm. It seemed totally bonkers. He seemed to 'get it' and settle down around 10 weeks. Seemed like a lifetime then and seems like it was a brief blip now. I didn't have another DC to deal with though so sending hugs. It WILL get better!

Thanks, that is reassuring... I wasn't to feel really positive about this as I found it so difficult last time but it's hard when even hours of feeding doesn't seen to satisfy him! But I'll stick in there!

Isn't there a growth spurt at six weeks? also the hot weather is making my DD feed more though this seems to be settling down now touch wood, fingers crossed

As previous poster said it will settle and what seems like forever will quickly seem like a blip.

Losing confidence in what you are doing seems to be the one parenting thing I am good at so totally understand where you are coming from Smile

Haha! I know what you mean squeakyheart I lose confidence easily... I wondered about a growth spurt as he's gone from very settled to quite grumpy unless feeding. I suppose this too shall pass as they say!

I bet he's lovely though.... All this time to sit and look at his tiny little nose and stroke his ears before he's too big and wriggly Smile

Sounds like a growth spurt. Please take a look at a book called the Womanly art of breastfeeding. It's restored faith in my ability as a bf mother :-)

Do you have the wonder weeks app?

It's fab and have me confidence with breastfeeding knowing when their developmental leaps and growth spurts would be. I was so gutted when DS outgrew the book!

You think you've got it all sussed and then something changes and it throws you into panic I was like this, second time round tho I managed to stick it out. Does sound like a growth spurt which hopefully you can ride out, I took fenugreek just during growth spurt and kellymom.com kept me going. Well done you for getting this far. It will get easier but you just have to take one day at a time.
