breastfeeding and weight loss

Hi,
I know many people seem to battle to lose baby weight, but this is a query about the opposite. My son is 6m.o. and I am getting a bit worried about how much weight I'm losing. To put it in context, I was 8 and 1/2 stone before pregnancy, went up to 10 and 1/2 while pregnant, and am now 7 and 1/2. I am 5'3".
I lost the first stone and a half within a week after the birth, the other half a stone within 3 months, and in the next 3 months I've lost another stone. I have solely breastfed, on demand, and am now introducing solids and a bit of formula as I'm back at work. My son is healthy but on the skinny side. He seems pretty hungry!
I eat well, walk a lot but haven't found time for any other exercise, and probably eat too much sugar as well as meals.
Before I go to doctor, do you think it'll just pile back on as he starts eating more solids? I seem to have lost all my muscle tone.
Thanks

Hmmm, I've definitely found BF helped- I'm more or less back to pre-preg weight at 11 weeks. But the amount you've lost does sound a bit dramatic.

Are you generally the sort of person whom the weight falls off? Have you any symptoms with it as such? Like excessive thirst or peeing a lot, night sweats, tummy pain...

I think I'd be inclined to see GP. No harm in getting some bloods done to rule out anaemia, diabetes, thyroid issues, that sort of thing. I'm probably overthinking it but that's what I'd do!

Thanks for your reply. I'll mention it to HV if I ever get around to taking baby to be weighed again (harder now I'm back at work!) After a bit of googling it seems it could be an overactive thyroid. Many people have suggested I may have this in the past anyway, as I'm always hot, so worth asking I suppose.

I'd talk to a doctor, rather than a HV and not much a HV can do - they can't give you the tests, etc. She'd probably just tell you to go to gp anyway!

You're right. It's just finding time. But I will go as I'm so low on energy so it would be nice if there were a solution!

I had the same but from 6 months onwards. I still tend to lose but it has slowed down now. I did get checked at doctor (they did several tests and ruled out anything medical so thought it was just from BF.)

Def worth getting it checked by your doctor - it may just put your mind to rest or if there is anything the quicker its picked up the better
