hi,
Have posted on weaning and allergies but wanting opinions from BF view too.

Baby just over 6 months - always been windy especially at night but when we introduced solids this worsened (baby screaming all night - eventually terrible nappies). on HV advice we have stopped solids and returned to EFB 6 days ago.
since then we had 2 nights as above, followed by 2 nights of improvement and very watery stools, followed by 2 terrible nights baby in terrible pain but nappies more normal.

she is quite happy through day but nights are awful, she's so tired as unable to sleep, very distressed and in pain.

any advice?

Are you convinced this is physical, OP?

Is there anything else that's been going on that might make your baby wake more in the night than previously? Any changes?

teething has got worse recently, but i am concerned it may be a bowel problem.
also been a stressful couple of weeks - could that effect my milk?

Stress won't affect your milk, but it can affect a baby's behaviour - babies may wake more, appear more distressed, make more and increasingly forceful demands for care and comfort. Babies feel (rather than understand) when their primary caregivers are less able to be immediately emotionally 'there' for them, and respond by ratcheting up their needs. If there are times in the day when you have been unable to be your normal responsive self, then it may be your baby seeks you out at night.

Note: none of this is done by the baby calculating it out! These are basic, pre-programmed behaviours, which spring from normal feelings experienced by the baby.

This may have nothing to do with it, of course, but a bowel problem sounds unlikely, given your description.

Thanks tiktok,
could my diet effect the trapped wind?
she's definitely got bad wind as tummy is harder and then she perps an awful lot and tummy returns to softer.

I'll try detach from the stress and see if things improve too

Difficult to say about wind and whether it's trapped or not. It's not a popular view on mumsnet as people are very attached to the whole idea of wind and wind causing problems....but it is normal for babies' tummies to harden and then soften. It is normal for everyone to have wind in their tums, too. Of course it does sometimes cause discomfort (in adults, too) but most of the time babies and adults 'deal with' wind in the usual phsyiological ways, without it causing pain.

There is no good evidence that a mother's diet can increase or decrease the amount of wind, trapped or otherwise, in a baby, and by the age of 6 mths, even the greatest fans of the idea of wind being the source of all ills concede that most babies are not bothered by it, and that there are other reasons for a baby's distress.

Sorry - I am not being much help here. The fact is that you may never get to the reason for your dd's upset, and it will pass whatever you do :)
