are those pads for sore nipples any good? are they called hydrogel pads

(40 Posts)

Really sore on the left side

actually had to express the lwft breast today as was too sore to bf direct ly

using lanolin atm

Guess I should just try them xx

Rollermum Tue 22-Oct-13 02:42:47

Not tried them but I used lansinoh with a little bit of clingfilm on top. I told my midwife and she said it was like aversionof the healing breast pads (wet healing). I googled it and others have found it helpful, though some have found it worsened thrush. Also ideas paranoid abouts king sure all traces had gone before BF.

Hope you heal up soon.

Sorry - should have said I was paranoid about making sure all clingfilm gone before BF - it can tear.

MamaWren Tue 22-Oct-13 02:50:30

I used jelonet to help with wet healing. Healed them within a day or two.

Iveused them, and found they helped with healing and felt cooling. You need to sort the cause of the soreness first though. Is the latch ok?

fibrecruncher Tue 22-Oct-13 05:52:16

I found then really helpful - the lansinoh ones were great, the tommee tippee ones were horrible - they were really sticky.

I haven't used them. But I found nipple shields really useful when I was really sore these are the ones I use

Tomorrow I will get nipple shields and some type of gel dressing

I think the latch I
s ok, just been in a hurry to feed him so need to take my time make sure he's on ok

It's actually not as sore as yesterday so hopefully I can heal quick.

Think my nursing bra is probably not the correct fit

White, sorry to hear you are so sore. The gel pads can really help and generally they say it is less damaging for the nipple to feed than to express.

I would avoid the shields until you've spoken to a bf counsellor in RL as they can cause their own problems for some - eg supply issues and it can be very hard to get baby off them.

The latch problem should resolve with a good bit of RL input - have you got an LLL group or bf drop in near you?

KippyVonKipperson Tue 22-Oct-13 08:53:59

I agree, the shields aren't recommended usually because they can mess up your supply, better to speak to someone in RL before you use them. The hydrogel ones I had were the tommee tippee ones which I thought were good. They are sticky though but it's only a temporary measure until you heal.

www.multi-mam.co.uk/ I used these compresses and found them brilliant. Just leave in your bra for a few hours, and it felt SO much better....

HeadingHome Tue 22-Oct-13 09:05:53

Yes yes yes to hydrogel discs. Amazing. Wish I had known about them 2 years ago! Like magic. I can't recommend enough.

Yes I ve already seen a bf counsellor

she was v nice think I will call her today xxxx

Good plan white and please keep us posted. Lots of support on here for you if you need it. Once latch is sorted the pain should go and then all should be much easier.

xx

Multi mam compresses were the only thing that helped me, like shatter said. I used them for about 6 weeks. But I agree you need to speak to bf counsellor about latch, DS latch on the left was terrible and not until I sorted that did they heal. Sorry you're in pain.

BlackberrySeason Tue 22-Oct-13 19:14:34

What did she think, white?

Hope you are a little less sore today.

Could only get multimam compresses today in my local boots got them on now

think they are helping

im windering if I should expreas from the left breast for a day or two until it heals

the bf counsellor didnt pick up so I left a message then sge called me back while I was out and she left me a message

so hopefully I will be able to talk to her tomorrow

Also my nipple is bleeding slightly and tonight I actually could take off my bra because my nipple had stuuck to it
so I had to sort of soak it off in the bath

You poor thing sad

I had a very sore nipple that turned out to be infected- antibiotic cream (from doc), jelonet and lasinoh (plus expressing from that side) healed it in a few days.

Kellymom has some good info on nipple healing.

BlackberrySeason Tue 22-Oct-13 19:38:21

Poor you hmm Better to keep feeding from the sore one tbh as the expressing is more likely to hurt the breast tissue than feeding. Once latch is sorted they will heal very quickly.

Can I suggest you can the LLL helpline now for a bit of RL moral support and advice? They are open in the evenings and will definitely help you.

I think the multi mam compreses are helping as they don't feel so sore

I'm actually expressing off that side tonight in the hope I can give it chance to heal

And I hope I can talk to the bfc tomorrow

Wow
Those multi mam compresses are really good
Thanks for telling me about them

Just managed to bf off the left hand side
And it was painful but not as painful as it was

BlackberrySeason Wed 23-Oct-13 15:26:52

Glad it's less sore smile

Anyone come to have a look at the latch yet? I know you were waiting for the bf counsellor to come back to you.
